When I read the blurb (on Amazon), I knew I HAD TO read the book. But one thing the blurb doesn't mention is that Blue is a character from one of the books in Thomas' SEASONS OF LOVE series. Once I got far enough into the story, I remembered Blue from that series and I was thrilled to see that he finally got his own story. I won't tell you his story. You can get that by reading the blurb on Amazon. But I will say that it's a little bit CUTE and a little bit SAD. Let me explain what I mean by that. I call the story cute because both of the MC's are so cute and lovable (the description of Blue's jeans and how hot is derriere looks in them is CUTE and totally HOT!! And the story includes a dog. We all know that if there's a dog in the story, it's always gonna be CUTE) But I can't tell you why I call the story is sad. That would be giving too much of the plot away. Blue
has had some sadness in his life, but you'll just have to read the book to find out the details of that sadness. Don't worry, though. Mr Thomas is always able to turn sadness into happiness in all of his books. My ONLY complaint about this story is the angst that John (Blue's true love) goes through concerning the age difference between the two men. I felt like John should have gotten over that issue much sooner in the story. But that complaint is so minor that it made no difference when I gave this book five stars!!
By the way.....if you're reading this review, Mr Thomas, let me say that I loved seeing Dr Lee appear in another one of your books!! Now I want to know when Dr Garrow will get HIS story. (Just kidding!)
Blue has a unique optimism and innocent view of his life despite loss and abuses while still a child. Whatever his situation, he sees it as better than what some people have to endure. He loves life and lives it as fully as possible even though he has no home, money or food. He does, however, have a dog. That gets hit by a car and that tragedy leads him to John.
I finished Blue about 4:00 this morning. I enjoyed it so much. The main characters are strong and complex. Generous hearts. Hopeful, honest people. One of the things I most enjoy about this author's works is the fundamental decency of the characters and their willingness to communicate. He doesn't use the trope of pages of miscommunication and weeks, months, years apart. Life has enough difficulty without refusing to talk. Every book by BG Thomas has a gentle humor and kindness in the story that leads me to believe this is part of his personality.
My favorites by BG: Blue, All Alone in a Sea of Romance, Anything can Happen. I highly recommend this book and the others. I don't believe you will be disappointed in this author.
