Great book for valuing guns and rifles... Since the market is constantly changing for collectibles, they won't give valuations of things like Colt Pythons at 100%. But, they do give pricing up to 98%. A lot of people don't know or care, but a gun without an original box and papers is only an 80% gun. This book will give you all the information you need so that you don't get taken for a sucker, whether buying or selling. Recommended!

We get one of these every 4 or 5 years for our business. It is very comprehensive and helpful when determining value of a firearm. Unless there is some volatility in the market for a particular firearm, or if there are new models that you need information on, you can get by with updating the book every few years.

It is very complete and useful. There are so many variations within models and between similar models that it is a little hard first find and then determine what pertains to your weapon. There must be a better way to define the weapon, but that said, the book still deserves 5 stars.

If you need to know something about gun values, you need this book. It's extremely detailed and comprehensive. I can't say I agree with the values. When I sell or trade one I can't get the prices listed. Likewise when I go to buy one, I can't get the prices in here. Willing seller and willing buyer?

Best single volume reference and price guide

The Blue Book is not perfect, but it`s the best single volume reference guide you can find. It doesn`t cover fine points, minor variations, or have many pictures, but if it did it would have to be about 40 volumes instead of one.
For detailed info you have to go for books dedicated to single manufacturer such as Colt, S&W, Winchester, ect.
But for a general reference and price guide this book simply can`t be beat.
Please take note that as with any price guide on anything (especially collector items) the prices given are ballpark figures. Real world prices will vary depending on a large number of factors. As a general rule the prices given on older guns is somewhat optimistic and prices given on some of the newer stuff is often on the low side.

I recently hired a gun "expert" to come out and appraise some guns that were in my late brother's gun collection, and which his widow asked me to sell. I noticed the book he was using was titled .... "Blue Book"....; so in order to save $ I decided I could look in a book as well as he. This book has been a big help & $ values are very similar to his. The only negative is his book had pictures that made guns easier to identify, and this book doesn't; however, with model nos. it is no big deal. This book is pretty thorough, but there are a few rare guns where the book value can be thrown out the window, because you can get much more. But overall, I would recommend this book.
