Cinnamomum verum - ain't nothing like the real thing, baby. That cheap brown powder you've been buying at the supermarket will taste like dirt after you try Ceylon Cinnamon. This is the hard stuff, the uncut cinnamon that will turn you into a cinnamon junkie, mainlining it into your muffins, pies and even your babka. This is the cinnamon that cures diabetes, Parkinson's disease and venereal warts, and it tastes great in your morning tea. In other words, all of your problems are solved, Porky. A lesser babka? I think not.

After learning about the possible toxicity of coumarin found in the average grocery store cinnamon I decided to look for some ceylon, which is lower in coumarin. I ended up buying this cinnamon from Blue Lily, and am very happy with my purchase! I may have bought it for health reasons, but I'll repurchase in the future just for the overall quality and flavor. It is so much better than cassia cinnamon, the aroma smells like big red bubble gum and the flavor is mellow, and slightly sweet. It doesn't get bitter if you add too much to your food either. The only thing I dislike is the bag, the resealable zipper at the top is very thin and almost impossible to seal.

Okay. I read all the reviews on this and then got some and yes, it does not have the stingingly sharp aroma and taste of Spice Islands cinnamon. They are two different varieties. But only true Ceylon cinnamon has the beneficial properties. This has a slight cedar-ish, woody aroma with the cinnamon. It is milder than the "cheapie" cinnamon which is so prevalent everywhere. I have used it to help lower my blood pressure, enhance good cholesterol, and for the good taste in baked apples. Terrific stuff!

p.s. It is hardly fair to expect this quality of cinnamon to sink to the level of the stuff in the supermarkets. That would be like expecting Moonstruck or Godiva chocolates to taste like a Hershey bar. And by the way, if you have ever tired eating very good quality chocolate, then tasted a Hershey bar, you will know what I am talking about. All of a sudden the Hershey bar or Hershey kiss tastes sharp and not so good.

I've never had ceylon cinnamon before, but I read it contains much less "coumarin," a compound in other forms of cinnamon that can be unhealthy in large quantities. I use cinnamon daily in drinks, so that's why I ordered this.

So, I gotta give it four stars because the zip lock closure of the package is flimsy and is hard to close once it gets gunked up with cinnamon.
I'm also not a huuuge fan the flavor, but I can't give it fewer stars just because of that; that's not related to the quality of the product.

But yeah, I'm kinda sad it doesn't have the same "punchy-ness" of aroma and flavor as regular, store-bought (cassia) cinnamon. I have to use more of this cinnamon in order to even taste it. It also has a soft, somewhat sweet flavor. The smell of it reminds me of the smell of a Michael's craft store....Kinda like cinnamon, but sweeter and different... You know what I mean?

Unfortunately, I think I prefer cassia cinnamon to this stuff. But it's not bad and I'm sure I'll find use for it, though...so no regrets here.

I absolutely love cinnamon and couldn't wait to try out Blue Lily's Ceylon cinnamon. Now what makes Ceylon cinnamon better than regular cinnamon? It tastes way better in my opinion and isn't as flat and dry but rather Ceylon has that nice cinnamony taste and is moist and smells like actual cinnamon. Not only that but eating to much cinnamon is bad for you since it contains a toxic chemical which is why Ceylon is the way to go since it doesn't contain that compound. Also with blue lily's I like how the bag is resealable and keeps the cinnamon smelling nice and tasting fresh. Overall I love this cinnamon and recommend it to anyone trying to get healthy or just add a kick to there food. Also id like to add that cinnamon helps slow down the rise of blood glucose and maintains your blood sugar so its great for diabetics (its also good for everyone else to).

I ordered this after reading about the risks of cassia cinnamon. It came in in a timely manner and is excellent quality. I, like the other reviewer, felt that the packaging could be improved. The top of the package was hard to close, so I put it in a larger zip bag to keep it fresh. I use this every day and it does seem to improve my overall energy after a couple weeks of use. Oddly, I also don't seem to want to snack as much. I will continue to order from this company and just placed an order for turmeric that I expect to come in a few days.

Decided to try this brand of bagged Ceylon because I was running low, and just needed to refill the canister. I found this cinnamon to have a dirt aftertaste along with a different cinnamon flavor than I was use to with Ceylon. I have come back a day later to try again to see if it was something I ate to alter the taste of this Ceylon just be be fair. Even though I have a bit of another brand of Ceylon here with me to compare both times I tried...It still taste dirt ridden. It just repulses me...Both times images of earth worms burrowing through dirt, came to mind. Is Verum different than Zeylanicum?

It would be nice to get a refund.

Another brand of Ceylon previously which has no dirt taste at all, has a pleasant different cinnamon aroma/taste with food and was enjoyable to eat straight out of the bag.

With all said and done I have to ask is, does Ceylon strongly vary flavor with batch to batch, tree to tree, farm to farm? If so regarding specifics, I am playing cinnamon roulette when trying different brands, or even the same brand.
