I make mine by dissolving it completely in boiling hot water and then adding in frothed milk. I use a handheld milk frother, which is simple to use and clean and also inexpensive. You can test it as you start using it to get the best mix for your own taste. I use about equal parts hot water and milk. I've tested out all variety of milks - 2%, 1%, soy, oat, almond. It tastes good with them all, so you just have to pick your favorite type of milk. I also add in raw honey and sugar to my tastes. Raw honey is thicker, so I've found it best to add the honey to the hot water with the chai already dissolved, before I add the milk. Like I said, you'll figure out a method that suits your tastes.
If it seems to strong for you, then add more milk or use a bit less of the chai blend. If too peppery, maybe add more milk, but also, you should shake the tin, it might have settled a bit unevenly. My first few chai lattes were good, not great. It took a few attempts to get on the path to getting the taste just right for me. I used too much mix the first time, hadn't shaken it, so it tasted strong and peppery. Next day was better, the day after better than that as I got the correct ratios of milk, honey, and sugar to suit my taste.
Needless to say, I highly recommend this and hope it is made forever.
I've been messing with tea bags and loose tea and spices forever, trying to find something similar to the Chai I like.
The "chai I like" is the kind I get from my local Indian takeout place, which is similar to SBUX and Panera. (Yes, I'm aware that 2/3 of those places use concentrate in a box, and my favorite place might be "dumbing down" their product so that Karen - who thinks mayonnaise is spicy - won't send it back and demand a refund. What I'm saying is that I haven't had the opportunity to try authentic chai to be able to compare it.)
The thing is, I don't do sugar anymore.
So, after looking on Amazon, I saw Blue Lotus and ordered it. I hadn't before because the upfront cost is high, though you do get a decent amount of cups out of it, making it very affordable in the end.
I used my electric kettle to boil 4oz water, then added a spoon of chai (their little spoon that comes in the tin) and used my milk frother to mix it thoroughly. Then I added some Jordan's Skinny Syrup (plain "simple syrup") followed by 4oz of steamed unsweetened almond milk. I frothed that a bit and... Not strong enough. So I added another spoon of chai, and it was PERFECT. It was even better than my favorite because there's a nice heat to it. Not super spicy or anything, but just enough to make it warmer than the commercial box concentrate. It's lovely.
That said, it still kind of behaves like a tea, in that it doesn't all dissolve. No matter how long or hard you froth, it won't all dissolve, so plan on your last couple sips being uncomfortably gritty and have fun trying to interpret your future from the undissoved gunk below, I guess.
It tastes wonderful and I do see it lasting a while as a little does a long way.
I will say the best chai lattes I have made are using loose leaf, but I don’t always feel in the mood to steep and strain. This is an awesome quick alternative.

I don’t find it to be very strong, it does taste like traditional chai, other than the black pepper. I do add 1/2 tsp of ghee to it sometimes, as well as saffron. I find the ghee helps decrease the black pepper punch. I grew up drinking traditional chai, however, never had anyone ever add black pepper to it, so may take me some time before I get used to the flavor.
Overall, its great for on the go, I will take it with me when I travel for work. I also will try out the other flavors offered by this company as well. It is a bit pricy, but I think it’s worth the price due to the product being pretty high quality.
