This CD is an incredible collection of jazz works during a very brief era, where the innovators were turning out exceptionally funky tunes, probably inspired by both Motown, and the Bossa. These tracks were originally cut from contemporary issues, but this CD brings them back! Unfortunately it didn't last very long - some of the artists went back to more traditional jazz, others to fusion, and yet others to slippery sweet disco (unbelievable but true). Man, I wish there were more of these...

Picked up this CD in a used bin; and it has turned into one of the most listened to in my collection. The grooves avoid the cliche so often associated with more pop-oriented tunes from this period. Highly recommended for a road trip but beware - you may lose control of the car.

I saw where this was available at a fair price so I got it and I'm glad I did. Each track is a gem. Although "Hunk of Funk" is already on my play list. My friends are always wondering where I get these groovy sounds. GO TO AMAZON.COM!!!

Get your "snack on" with these tasty morsels of groovy funk essentials. What a phenomenal choice of cuts! One of the favorite discs of my collection.

This CD captures what is, while not the best tracks from the artists involved, still some pretty good stuff...if you're into jazz already. The connectins between the 2 genres is made clearly apparent here in the grooving beats and punchy horn sections, and no small part of the blues in its inflections. However, if you're looking for something to see if you're even into jazz, you may want to try something a little less hardcore. Parts of it even come off like a pretty hip lounge party, but really old-school-like.
Some pretty good stuff, but only for heads or rare groove collectors. The stuff is so hard to find, most people who are into jazz probably haven't heard the tracks before now.
