I bought this game based on the reviews, and I was not disappointed. You can figure out after a few turns what type of habitat each player has. If an animal gets passed over 3 turns, we discard that animal and choose a new replacement from the unused cards. The kids are a little competitive about who wins, but it’s pretty fair because you work on creating your own world, and your total points are based on that. The games don’t last long and that’s nice for the adults lol. It looks complicated at first, but we found a you tube video that explained it thoroughly, and we easily figured it out after the first game. The only thing not explained in the rules is whether you can move the tiles once you’ve placed them, but we decided (just like a real world scenario) that once a tile is placed, it’s permanent. This is a nice addition to our board games.

My husband and I play tested before introducing to our kids tonight and WOW. We might actually hide this one because we loved playing it as a couple.

It’s super quick to learn, highly replayable, and a lot of fun.

This would probably make a great birthday gift for anyone who enjoys strategy games. The creators have included two variations - one that makes the game more enjoyable for younger players and another that increases the importance if luck over strategy.

Game pieces are high quality. I was worried about the magnets peeling or creasing (from bending) when removing them from the core but they are thicker than I expected and well crafted.

Planet is a fun game. Basically, you're trying to create a world that has the most of your element and also attracting lots of different animals based on what environment they need. Built on a fun concept, fairly easy to learn, and stays fun. *WARNING* Don't play this game if you don't like strategy. Probably 70-90% strategy.

**EDIT** I gave it 4 stars because the instructions aren't super clear - you might need to find a YouTube video before playing because not everything is explained super well. Also when you score, I find it helpful to take all my tiles off the planet - at the end of the game, placement doesn't matter, and having the tiles on the table/floor makes it so much easier to count.

My kids, 7 & 4, love this game. Reading is not needed to play, so after a game or two with us parents, the kids can now play this on their own. It's great that the instructions have an illustration of the setup. The world-building is engaging and component quality is great! My kids quickly began strategizing more deeply to try to win the animals they like. The game is pretty straight forward, but each turn has interesting choices. It can be tricky to count territory on a 3-D shape, but after a little practice, our 4yo was able to do so. So far we have left out the cards that reward extra points for having you collect one terrain type.

My 6-year-old and I love this game, and he understands it enough to play it well. I love the artwork in this game; it is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. I also very much enjoy how this game has broken out of the traditional game boards with the planet "cores." I appreciate that it's really easy for beginners to pick up, and it's complex enough that it's hard to come up with a repeatable strategy. The replay value is excellent. One of the best games I've ever bought. If I had to find something about it that could be improved, I would swap the scoring rules for the animals from your natural habitat and other habitats. We've found it to be quite difficult to get a lot of animals from your own natural habitat because of the "not adjacent to" cards, so it seems like they deserve a bonus rather than a penalty.

My wife and I are great fans of Kingdomino. We are vets. We play monthly and anytime we go to the brewery, it's coming with us. I buy just about any Blue Orange game because we are a family of 5 and their games are so good for families. That being said, this is Kingdomino on a spherical planet. You attach your magnetic tiles and compete with other players to figure out who "captures" certain animals with specific lands. Think; try to get crowns for regions in Kingdomino you have to have the most of that specific region. The game is easy to learn but it has a steep learning curve and the randomness of the cards that are played, not the tiles, make this game a lot of fun. Especially for kids, kids love tile placement games (From my experience). Blue Orange delivers another staple in their library, and mine as well tbh.

This game is great if you're after a simpler game to play. The planet sphere is an excellent idea; it can be tough to navigate at times due to needing to constantly check where you have placed the tiles. Variety of points scoring options and an abundance of animal cards keep this game fresh.

Recommend for teens and older. Adults who love a games night but want a shorter, simpler game will enjoy Planet.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's as fabulous as you make it
Reviewed in Canada on April 11, 2023

We're delighted with this game! My daughters are ages 8 and 12 and I think we have much more fun than we'd ever have with younger kids. Older kids can be more strategic (especially my 12 year old) and that makes the game more interesting. We usually play according to the rules (well... almost) and sometimes play in entirely different ways. The game pieces provide plenty of room for play, and I mean PLAY. You could (and we do) just dive into creating worlds and forget about points, objectives, or taking turns.

When we do play (almost) by the rules, we reverse the rules for how animal points are ascribed. We award 2 points for every animal that matches your "objective" card and 1 for the others. The instructions say the opposite and that just doesn't work well, in my experience.

As a variation, we sometimes just put all the magnets out on the table, face up (the magnets show habitats and stick to the globes). We either use some or all of the animal cards. Then we build our worlds at our own speed, not caring about turns but just sitting together and plucking out magnets from the pool, rearranging them as we wish until we have what we think is a winning world. I suppose we could set a timer and/or give the youngest a head start, but haven't yet. When everyone is happy with their worlds, we go through the cards and see who can host the most animals.

A more imaginative use of the game pieces that occasionally happens in our house is to collaborate on the building of multiple worlds while imagining what each would be like. My girls love fantasy so as they craft each planet's geography, they get chattering about the magical traits of the animals who live there, the sort of people who might be there (if any), and how they all interact. They're literally doing the "world creation" step that every fantasy or sci-fi story begins with. It's super fun.

Overall, it was a great purchase and we'll have many, many hours of fun family time with it. Like any great game, it will get piles of use for a while, then sit on a shelf until it is rediscovered and becomes popular again.
