The Patriot from Blue Ox gives you the comfort needed for when you’re braking your tow vehicle. Not only is it convenient and easy to store, but it also proportionally applies the brakes while you’re slowing down to a stop, instead of suddenly jolting your tow vehicle causing costly damage to your brakes

My thanks to the other reviewers. Allowed me to buy with knowledge and confidents.
Updated to three stars as the Patriot has worked well with some additional equipment. I have used the Patriot Brake successfully with a separate small deep cycle battery with a pigtail (instead of plugging into the 12V vehicle outlet). This has prevented the C-RV battery drain that was occurring even with the recommended fuse pulled for towing. I recharge the small deep cycle battery every other tow.
The installation of the Patriot was a breeze. Wiring the break-away switch and running the wire from the break-away switch to the driver's side foot well took about two hours, including removing the Jeep's belly pan, notching it for the switch and re-installing it.
I tested the braking system in a large empty parking lot with a friend in the Jeep's passenger seat providing feedback. The system worked beautifully. I then took it out on the highway and tested it at freeway speed while approaching off ramps (with no one in the Jeep). I also tested it going down hill on some relatively steep surface streets. I started with the gain low and increased it up to about 7 on the downhill stops. As expected, the stopping distance increased the most when stopping on going downhill.
There is a brief but noticeable delay in the tow car braking.response as the electric motor advances the brake pedal. The lag is not enough for me to change my rating.
I like being able to increase the gain from the RV using the RF controller, and the ability to manually brake the Jeep from the RV.
This braking system is used with a Blue Ox base plate on the Jeep, a Blue OX Alpha 6500lb tow bar, a Blue Ox 4" drop receiver, and a Blue Ox wiring kit for the lights (separate bulb system). I am also using two Roadmaster "Quiet Hitch" u-bolts to remove play in the receiver to drop and drop to tow bar connections, and they removed 95% of the hitch rattle.
I have to say, I am impressed with all the Blue Ox products I've purchased.
So far, so good. If anything changes I'll update my review.
