I was going for the RODE PSA1 Swivel Mount Studio Microphone Boom Arm (that you can check out here: http://amzn.to/1HHxPz4) which has excellent reviews about it being the best choice if you have a Blue Yeti microphone. I decided against it the last minute when I found the Pyle Boom Arm which is way cheaper than the Rode PSA1. It holds up my Yeti and the shock mount quite well just like what the reviews said, but I'll probably upgrade to the PSA1 eventually.
I also had to just stick with my old regular pop filter to save some more moolah, but I will eventually go for either the Auphonix 6-inch Pop Filter For Blue Yeti Microphone http://amzn.to/1HHyalh or the Blue Microphones The Pop Universal Pop Filter http://amzn.to/1HHyiRQ
I am really happy about my purchases! These are my top best purchases I have made before the year ends. These are my early Christmas presents for myself. Done deal. I already have a green screen home studio setup with all the bells and whistles. I couldn't be any happier :)
Now that I have everything mounted, it definitely does improve sound quality: removing all vibrations created from my desktop and such, but ultimately the mounting issues make this difficult to recommend—especially considering it's built specifically for the microphone I'm using.
-Holds the Blue Yeti. This microphone is so heavy and uses the larger screw so it doesn't fit in a lot of cheap mounts, but this mount was made for the Yeti (literally).
-Does what it says on the tin. Well it comes in an easy-open clamshell, but still- it's a good shock mount, no complaints on function.
-Great materials. Like the Yeti itself, lots of quality metal. This will last.
-Multi-position locking hinge. The new hinge is a locking type, once you position the microphone and screw it down it isn't going anywhere.
-Heavy. Like the Yeti, this is all made of heavy metal (joke not intentional). Cheaper microphone booms will probably fold under the combined assault, but so long as your mount can take the punishment, this is quality equipment.
-Huge. The mount is actually too big for the Yeti, it could stand to be smaller. I assume it's made so large to give it excellent dampening, but the unit is very big. Together, this makes the Yeti a little cumbersome for a desk, even though the result is so beautiful I don't mind.
So there it is. This shock mount is very heavy so you need to be careful how you rig it up, but otherwise, the quality is amazing- and the price isn't bad either! Go for it.
And for $20 I might understand how the mount DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR A YETI MICROPHONE could have a metal mount for it that grinds when trying to screw the microphone onto it. I understand how to thread a bolt into a threaded hole, I gave it several very meticulous tries to get it to line up better and it never did.
I spent 5 years working in the audiovisual field and screwed hundreds of mic clips on mic stands and NEVER had any issues even close to something like this; and those were different brands most of the time. That's how industry standards work. 5/8" is 5/8".
