Wow, bought this on the cheap here and am really liking it. Rocking riffs, with crunch, some memorable hooks and excellent sound quality..
I had their first and liked it but it didnt stick, so I didn't listen much. this is better. The lyrics are a bit generic and it isnt the most original style of music but is executed extremely well. Just good hard rocking, ballsy stuff.
Put the crunch of Godsmack, style of LA Guns, some ballads and Kiss's 'Carnival of Souls' in a blender and this is what you get. Its Tough to find a disc that is good throughout these days but this pretty much delivers. Definitely worth the measly few dollars it is offered for here.
Part of the reason this disc is so good is the mere fact that it is not polished, but very live sounding. 'Is Everything Alright','Hypnotize', 'Who Do You Think You Are' and 'Do You Know My Name' are great tracks but all are done well. You remember them after they are over and will go back to it. Some sounding like they could easily blend in with Kiss's 'Carnival of Souls' record, which i thought was one of their best. Kulick must have had more to do with that CD than was previously thought.
Too bad they are no more. They should have stuck it out a bit longer. There is a market for this grungy yet 80's style hard rock with attitude. I suppose its tough to come from their situation being from other bands. To be seen as a 'fill in' member before a subsequent reunion. Especially in Corabi's case seeing they barely acknowledge his time in the Crue. Their fans didnt follow him after the fact whereas some of Kiss's fans will just buy Kulicks stuff to have for their collections..
Most musicians who try to make it after being replacement members in successful bands may have heart but don't have decent product. Thats not the case with this CD at all.
Bruce Kulick really steps it up and shines on some of the solo's. Finally proving he is an excellent guitarist in his own right that can carry a tune. Not only a studio musician playing it without all the passion. I also like Corabi's delivery on this one. Vocally he is a little limited but he sounds a lot more comfortable on 'The Blue Room' compared to the debut. More soul in the vocal giving the songs the feel they need when the semi-generic lyrics fall short.
Overall I must say that this disc is a pleasant surprise. I should have checked it out years ago. I know hardly anyone will catch this review now, but it deserves kudos. Pick it up if you like the Genre. It rocks out and its unfortunate that it came and went like it did.
On Yeah, and the Zeppelin-esque 'No More' Kicks a** too.
