TL;DR Unfortunately had to return. The sound was an 11/10 but unfortunately it seems that's all BLUE focused on with these.

I've been into wireless headphones for a really long time, back in high school I was that weird kid that had the headphones with the blinking lights. but no wires felt like the future! The problem was that as a musician, I was quite the audiophile too and that didn't pair well for a long time.

Along came the Mo-Fi headphones 3 years ago and I went back to wired headphones because they sounded incredible to me. They weren't perfect at all (3.5 imo) but they sounded great and that's what mattered to me at the time. Then the Bragi Dash joined my ranks and they were okay as well. I used them for commuting, the gym and swimming. They were an incredible device with above average sound quality but the bluetooth connection was garbage. Nonetheless, those are the two devices I'm coming from.

Now onto the real review! This will just be an initial impressions and day 1 review and I'll update my experience throughout the next few months.

4 Weeks Update (returned and switching Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 or B&W P7's)

Build and Aesthetics:

So many issues here in the long run. The paint was nearly completely off on the buttons after only a few weeks! The rattling in the headphones returned. The fabric started to fray and

Sound:

This is the only thing not bringing this review from a glistening 5 star review to a 1 star review. It sounds so good that I just can't knock them down that far. Unfortunately the sound is no longer enough to justify keeping them and I returned them.

"Software":

Everything I said before was accentuated and true. The thing I couldn't stand was the battery indication. There are few things more frustrating than your headphones just dying halfway through you commute with no indication.

Battery Life:

Around 8-10 hours with AMP and ANC

Build and Aesthetics:

I stand by a lot of what I said before but I do think there's an issue with some units. I experienced the 'shaking' sound coming from inside the headphones, like some other reviewers did, and got a replacement pretty quickly and haven't experienced it at all in the new pair. Don't think I can justify knocking it down a star for that. Aside from that the build is all holding up well, the fabric isn't fraying much either.

Now a lot of people have said that they're wayyy too tight. I agree at first but after two weeks (older pair here, not replacement pair) they were the perfect tightness which is what BLUE claimed they do, so all good on that front.

Sound:

100% sticking to my sound assessment. These things sound amazing.

"Software":

So like I said before, there's some weirdness here with not knowing when things are on and I've gottenI used to it but the more I use them, the more I realize what a huge oversight that was. This oversight shows itself more in not giving you any audio indication of when the battery is low!? They just..die. I was on the train jamming out and they simply just died. Apparently the power button flashes when it's low but how the hell am I supposed to see that while wearing them. It's a very annoying flaw that would lower these to a 4.5 overall for me

Battery Life:

Been using them every day and I've been happy with battery life. I listen with AMP and ANC on and they last for around 8-10 hours for me.

Overall:

Still in love with them because the sound is amazing. The 'software' oversights bring it down to a 4.5 from a solid 5. Everything else is still brilliant.

Build and Aesthetics:

Initial build quality seems awesome. The Mo-Fi metal was good but it made the headphones extremely heavy and difficult to transport. The plastic pieces don't feel cheap and the headphones are lighter which is a huge win for me, especially when I walk so much around the city and stand on the train. The fold very nicely and don't have any resistance so no pieces feel like they could break or come undone. They look excellent as well. Both on and on a table, my girlfriend loved them immediately from an aesthetics perspective. It also comes with a super slick hard case which I wish would've come standard with the Mo-Fi headphones. Big step up from Blue on the packaging front. There's even a velcro attachment for the pouch that holds your cables.

Sound:

Yeah, these things are incredible. I can't believe they packed this quality in a bluetooth headset. The power and quality are unreal. I'm hearing sounds I didn't even know were there and that's even after comparing to the Mo-Fi which also came with the built in amp. The sound is a tad warm which I'm a huge fan of but they react very well to an equalizer. Also, the bass is very very heavy, especially with the amp on. Clarity is stellar, I've never heard drums sound so clear on a headphone before. Songs I initially used to test were:

"Software":

The buttons seem easy enough to use and have a nice clickyness. Two gripes I have here are that
1) You don't really know aside from sound when the ANC/AMP are on. Would be nice to have an indicator or special sound when you turn them on or off. Can't go around memorizing what each song sounds like with them on or off. The AMP is easy enough but the ANC is a tad weird to know. Either way, I've found a setting I really like in what seems to be both the AMP and the ANC on.
2) You have to disconnect every time to connect with another device so if you listen to your phone on commute then switch to your computer that'll be a pain.

Battery Life:

Not enough time with them to test just yet but will report back!

Fit:

They feel a bit big on my head but I've always been told I have a small head so take that as you will. They give quite a bit though and should fit most of you.

Overall:

These things are amazing. They're not getting the hottest of reviews around the web but good god they sound amazing. They're better than any other Bluetooth headphone I've ever tried and sound leagues better than anything else I've tried as well. On day 1 I seriously recommend these things if you're an audiophile who commutes and just wants a great sound without blowing out your wallet.

I so, so wanted to like these headphones. They sound fantastic, probably the best of the high-end Bluetooth cans. But they have a couple of flaws that are pretty glaring, plus some quality control issues.

First, the QC issues. I've tried 2 pairs. The first pair had a slight rattle in the right speaker, as if something was loose inside. It also was difficult to engage the noise canceling (ANC). I would have to push the button repeatedly before the light would flash indicating a change of state (off/on). I sent the first pair back to Amazon and received a replacement pair. Tried those on and walked around a bit. Immediately noticed the rattling, this time in BOTH speakers. Put them right back in the package. Returning them too. And giving up.

The other issues are more design oriented...

Other than a power on or off sound, there are zero audio cues when you turn the ANC or built-in amp on or off. It isn't too important with the amp as the change in volume is obvious, but the ANC is so subtle you really don't know if you're turning it on or off without watching the light on the side of the earcup. There's also no indication of the battery charge state. If the battery runs out, the cans just stop with no warning. BTW, I contacted Blue and asked if the cans are firmware updatable, hoping there may be a fix to the lack of audible cues in the works. No response.

The cans are REALLY tight. Tight as in my jaw starts to hurt after wearing them for a while. I imagine they would break in after a time, but ouch.

As I mentioned, the ANC is pretty subtle. Even when I was positive it was turned on I could barely notice any affect. Kinda lame when you consider they tossed an extra pair of drivers in just for the ANC.

Finally, the silk screening or decals on the control buttons is sub-par and wears off almost immediately. I took a picture the second day I had the first pair. You'll notice the ANC letters are already half way worn off.

I could have lived with the design flaws, as the Satellites really do sound fantastic. But the rattling is 100% unacceptable. It's a shame. Maybe Blue's next stab will be better.
