This fire pit is constructed of steel which is susceptible to rust with exposure to outdoor conditions and fire. The unique design of this fire pit can generate heat in the burn chamber that can exceed 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit. While we paint our fire pits with high temperature heat resistant paint, there are no commercially available paints suitable to meet these extremes. With use and time, these fire pits will show signs of rust, this will not impact the performance of the fire pit. The paint can be touched up with high-temperature paint – used on BBQ grills and other high heat appliances and can be found at most hardware stores. The bottom for the fire grate in this fire pit is stitch welded into place to allow the fire grate to flex, which is required due to the high temperatures generated in the burn chamber. The flex can cause the fire grate to look wavy, this is normal and will not affect the performance of the fire pit.

Defiantly not an experience what I was looking for.

Defiantly not an experience what I was looking for.
So I wanted a small firepit that would provide a fire without the normal smoke. The pellet option was intriguing, but having no experience with them it is surprising how fast you go thru them. At about 5 bucks for a 40 lb bag, I thought that would be a more economical option than paying 7 bucks a bundle for firewood. And it is, but the pellets are harder to find here in Florida than I had thought they would be. So I now have 5 bags in the back of my truck to get me thru till I can find them again.
A 3 hour fire will burn thru about 20 lbs. Which brings me to what I had read in the other reviews and the biggest drawback to this pit. A 3 hour fire is a lot of work, you will be adding and adding and adding... If you fill the pit with a little over 2 inches of pellets as it recommends to start, the fire will last right at about 45 minutes. Which most nights, that's really all my wife and I want. But to entertain around this pit, if you miss 'the window' on when to start adding more pellets to keep the fire going, you are in for one smokey show. Holy cow. It has ruined a few gatherings. If I had access to a saw, I would cut down some fire wood to extend the length of the fires we have by throwing small chucks in that would fit below the rim. So I don't totally hate this pit, just a little disappointed in how much enjoyment you get out of a standard fire. I gave it 4 stars based on the size of it, the sturdiness of it and the carrying bag. Which I haven't mentioned how sooty it gets, so thank gawd for the carrying bag to keep it off from everything while we travel. I would recommend this pit, but just know the limitations.
It is advertised as a smokless pellet fire pit so if you use pellets fill only a 1/2" layer to start. Starting gel is best to get the fire going. If you use too much pellets to avoid refilling continuously the fire will get high, about 2 ft above the top of the pit and might burn the paint on the top of it as one of the reviews states. But if you take it gradually the pit works well. You have to keep feeding the fuel so before the flame goes out put a handful or two of pellets in the center and the fire will keep going. It will smoke some as the new pellets or log starts. You can throw a log but you have to split the regular size logs so they fit inside the pit if you want a controlled fire in a small place. If you continue feeding a log or one or two handful of pellets before the fire goes out, the pit will keep the fire going without issue. If you want a hotter fire double the logs or the handfuls of pellets in the center of the pit before the fire goes out but be sure to be in an open space. I used hardwood pellets and fir logs and both worked really well as long as you keep the amount of pellets or logs controlled. You have to keep in mind that if you are using it in Small place like a small back yard, keep the amount of refill pellets to less that 2 handfulls or one log.
I wanted a contained fire pit I could set up easily while on the beach with friends and family and with the size, ease of set up, and carrying case. This fit the bill. Definitely recommend.
Takes a small amount of effort to get fire going without fire starter gel. But once it gets going the fire is strong and hot.
