I was a little skeptical the first time I caught wind of Mac Miller. I had to give the man a chance after hearing some of the hyper that was revolving around him. With that said, this album is solid and does him great justice as a debut album. I enjoyed the work that was put out before the album, including "Donald Trump." Critics that give this album a 1 star are mere haters and are, for some reason or another, being biased. This album is great. Ideally I'd give it a 4.5, but I had to settle on the 5 star rating. My favorite track is #7.

College frat-styled rappers come and go and tend to be popular for only a season. Asher Roth had some short-lived success with his massive single "I Love College" which peaked at #14 on the Billboard 100, not mention his album Asleep in the Bread Aisle peaking at #5 on the Billboard Album Charts. Sam Adams's EP/album Boston's Boy (Dig) made a little bit of noise, particularly with the Annie Lennox sampling "Drivin Me Crazy." Malcolm McCormick, aka Mac Miller seems to have more substance and a wider audience than either of his contemporaries. At the young age of 19, Miller has garnered millions of fans via his mixtapes and youtube videos, helping to set up his impressive full length Blue Slide Park up for instant success; the effort is expected to top the Billboard 200.

After the quasi-sung interlude "English Lane," Blue Slide Park gets off to a fast start with it old-school title track. Miller's flow is solid here, showcasing the 19-year old's charm and enthusiasm. While only two and half minutes, Miller `nails it' easily. "Party on Fifth Ave.," the follow-up single to "Frick Park Market" follows, further embodying the `old-school' sound with a tasteful use of synths and hard, pummeling drum programming. Again, Miller easily impresses, keeping the energy and momentum at nothing short of gargantuan. "PA Nights" wouldn't dare `break the chain' of hits, using nice chordal synths within the production work to give the track somewhat of an `airy' sound.

When Mac Miller (real name Malcolm McCormick) became the first independent artist to top the billboards chart with this debut album, critics and audiences alike were shocked. What does a young, white, Jewish suburban boy know about rap/hip-hop, which is territory for the roughest, meanest and toughest that inner-city poverty and troubles produce?

Mac Miller acquired an extremely loyal fan base through the internet and social networking when he began releasing a slew of free mixtapes in order to get himself recognized. Ultimately, he was signed to local record company Rostrum Records (of which Wiz Khalifa was also signed to) and given lots of leeway to create his debut album. The results were astounding.

This is a stellar debut from a young artist. The album is laden with tracks that tackle practically every issue a young male in his demographic would face and do so in an interesting manner: each track is different from the next and none sound alike. The production on this album is exemplary, and one of the very reasons he was able to so easily acquire such a massive underground following.

The tracks cover a wide array of material, from the title track "Blue Slide Park", where he arrogantly claims his bank account resembles a "George Jung stash house" (Jung was responsible for smuggling 85% of the cocaine present in America between the late '70s and early '80s) to tracks such as "Loitering" where he capitalizes on his young age and boasts of his partying ways, to "Missed Calls" where he reflects on how his fame has deadened his relationship with his girlfriend and introduced unwanted turmoil into his life.

There are 3 or 4 songs that are really good, my favorite being Smile Back (which is the only reason I bought the CD and found other songs that I liked). It sounds fairly polished and well versed, the only reason it's not a 5 star for me is because I don't like every song. His flow is definitely consistent though, so I truly look forward to new music from Mac Miller.

I don't know why I see so many terrible reviews of this record. This whole CD is dope. I have all the Mac Miller mixtapes and they all are dope. Blue Slide Park could not have been a better debut album. The CD's flows from #1-16, with no filler, every track is sick. Unless you didn't like Mac in the first place I can't see why people aren't pumped that he keeps bringing us more shit to listen to. I encourage anyone who likes dope beats and clever punchlines to pick up this album. This album deserves no less than 5 stars. Keep killin' em Mac.
