I have chosen to completely ignore all the other reviews explaining safety and secure desk holds, and I just stick the dang thing anywhere. On a table, on my keyboard, shoved it in amongst a pile of pillows. Look, I'm not that professional when people aren't looking and my desk is literally my bed. He doesn't fall over, and he picks up my noises no matter where I put him. (Oh no I've gendered it. Next comes naming it, and that's when you know you love things too much.) I've been singing karaoke like crazy, and my poor long-range boyfriend who has hearing issues can finally hear my real voice, clearly and properly.
I bought a pop filter, it hasn't arrived yet, but I'll probably need it, but for now, the pop pop pop isn't unreasonable. The red light on the front is obnoxiously bright, I just put a little tape over it. Simple. You need a quiet room for using this, but not too much of one. My heater going off doesn't register for instance, neither does my computer. I'm gonna crunch some fresh snow from outside so you can hear how crisp it is though, with a metric you can actually copy, probably. [I end up getting snow everywhere, on my keyboard, and my mouse, so I'm moving and dropping them here.]
I love it, it was well worth the money (I paid $30 or so thanks to repackaging and used, but worth the $50 or so.) and I can already tell this little cutie (and it is cute, my aging mother saw it and started giggling and wanted to hold it) is going to be a fine part of my vocal life.
This is honestly the best PC microphone you can buy on a budget. I haven't found any better condenser microphones for a cheaper price that actually work well with a PC.
- Crystal clear sound
- You plug it into your PC and it works out of the box, no setup needed
- Only $40 - best mic in the price range
- Picks up some background noise, but you literally just adjust the microphone sensitivity on your computer and you're fine.
I would definitely look into this mic if you are trying to get into doing YouTube or streaming. There are obviously better options out there, but if you are on a budget, this is definitely what you want to be getting. This microphone also works well with all PC games that I play (CSGO, PUBG, Overwatch), so if you would rather not have a headset mic when playing games, this works well.
I would definitely recommend this microphone!
So, it's easy to set up. Good ol' plug-n-play technology. Works great for recording into Audacity or whatever your software of choice is. The design's cute, the sound is great, and I love the handy tripod - perfect for balancing on a desk. For a hobbyist, this is just all around fantastic.
My one complaint is so minor as to not lose any stars - the red light on the front of the mic to indicate it's on is a bit bright, and since I tend to get all up in my mic's business while recording it can be a lil annoying. I wish the light were on the side or back instead of right there on the top. I'm planning on getting some electrical tape to deal with this issue, though, so whatever. Just something to take note of.
Also note this iCE one doesn't have the little switch thing advertised on the regular Snowball. I decided to cheap out and get this version, which I'm happy with, but that one looks like it lends a little more flexibility. Which you choose depends on your budget and whim.
Just a great mic. I'm really happy with this purchase, and it's made my show sound loads better.
Love it a lot more than I thought I would! I use a Heil PR-40 mic for my podcast, but was having all kinds of trouble getting good volume with my Logitech C920 camera or Camtasia. I called Camtasia and they said there is a known volume issue with mics that go through mixers and they recommended the Snowball.
Watched some videos and discovered the iCE is best if just one person recording without instruments.
Got it yesterday and worked flawlessly as soon as I plugged it in.
I'm spoiled by my PR40, so didn't love the sound quality of the Snowball, though volume was excellent. It was acceptable, but a bit thin. I put the audio through my filters in Adobe Audition and I'm really happy with the sound now.
It's a really inexpensive solution for a frustrating problem. I bought the Amazon-recommended NEEWER Adjustable Microphone Suspension Boom Scissor Arm Stand, Compact Mic Stand Made of Durable Steel for Radio Broadcasting Studio, Voice-Over Sound Studio, Stages, and TV Stations and Neewer NW(B-3) 6 inch Studio Microphone Mic Round Shape Wind Pop Filter Mask Shield with Stand Clip (Black Filter).
After watching a YouTube video that showed exactly how to attach the Snowball to the arm stand, I had no problem attaching the Snowball. Can't link to external URL on Amazon, so just look up the two products and you'll find the video.
Fabulous microphone for the price! Highly recommend it.
