I like my B vitamins and use quite a bit of brewer's yeast. I read the description of this product: not bitter, grown on sugar beet molasses, non GMO, plus it's a nice large container for the price. It's also not fortified, which I also consider a plus. Sounded great! But the flavor is, meh. If that doesn't bother you, this is a real good deal. Dairy hasn't been agreeing with me, so I prefer a brewer's yeast that quite flavorful - savory as I use it on salads and vegetables. This stuff would work well in smoothies and that is likely what I will end up doing with it. The flavor is rather neutral and could be hidden quite well. Give it a taste test before you do that lol.

A family member made lactation cookies for me with this brewer’s yeast. The taste was easily masked in the cookies. They were great and my milk supply did increase. Whether it was just the passage of time or the cookies, can’t say, but got to eat cookies either way!

The flavor does lack the bitterness of much cheaper brewers yeast. I can actually tolerate the taste when mixed with unsweetened coconut milk. It's not too bad. Unfortunately, after drinking it daily for a week it started causing very bad gas and so its use was discontinued.

Granted I gave this thing one try and I put two tablespoons in a smoothie. I honestly went too hard the first try. Smell wasn’t horrible but not pleasant. Yes it was bitter and tasted like dirt but again I put two tablespoons. I really should have sprinkled some or baby a teaspoon. With other breastmilk stimulants my breastmilk shoots up when I have a lot. That did not happen. I actually ended up having diarrhea and needing to puke the next day (I had the smoothie the night before).

I’ll attempt this again with less by the end of the week but can’t at the moment. Will update.

Good Brewer's Yeast. Just Not For me

I bought this to make lactation cookies. When I add it to the recipe, it's I can hardly taste it. But on it's own or added to other things like my morning oatmeal, it has a pretty gross/horrible flavor that I just cannot stomach. Perhaps it's an acquired tastes. For me it smells a lot like the Asian dried shitake mushrooms (which I like actually).

I have never had any other brewer's yeast before but I will note that this is not bitter. I've tasted the powder. I've also mixed the powder with water and sipped to taste. Gross flavor but definitely not bitter. The texture is also very fine. It mixes well in things but the powder easily catches in air and can get messy if not careful...like when adding it to a whirring mixer.

I'll continue to make lactation cookies while I'm nursing, but this is not a product that I'll be buying again for regular use. Overall I think this is a good quality brewer's yeast. It is highly rated by other users. However, it is just not for me.

I was using brewer's yeast tablets until I found out the kind I was using contain magnesium stearate, a harmful additive. So I decided to switch to brewer's yeast powder instead. I chose Bluebonnet Brewer's Yeast powder because it is made with beets and is also debittered.

To my surprise it arrived three days later; talk about speedy service! I was a bit apprehensive about how it would taste, but I actually like the taste. I put a tablespoon full in my cereal in the morning, then at night, I put a tablespoon full in my milk, which I drink with my dinner. Easy, breezy. Brewer's yeast gives me energy galore, and also improves my mood. Being diagnosed with hypothyroidism a few years ago, brewer's yeast has really helped me keep my energy level up. As a matter of fact, I've been off my meds for a few years now. I'm not recommending everyone stop taking their meds, but what I'm doing is definitely working for me. If you have hypothyroidism, avoid ingesting chlorine and fluoride, which suppress thyroid function. I'm really enjoying Bluebonnet Brewer's Yeast powder, and will continue to purchase it due to the superior quality of the product and its sellers.

Update 10/28/2013: I was having trouble sleeping, so I figured out that I was taking too much brewer's yeast, so I cut the dosage in half--from two tablespoons per day to one. Worked like a charm. I'm a small person, so apparently I was taking too much, which made me a bit TOO energetic, so I wasn't getting tired and sleepy at bedtime! I would recommend taking this product in the morning instead of at night.

This brand is a little more expensive. Could not find scoop until I was about half way through. This scoop is twice as large as other brands. Plus other brands give you weight of dog for the amount. This one just says 2 scoops. Well, I am not going to give my 10 pound Chiwawa the same amount as my 80 pound pit bull. The other brand has been hard to get in powder form since 2019.
