This is a great collection of two short stories that tie together crime and the racetrack. The first, True Story, is a creepy story within a story. When the race of a lifetime and the tragic collapse of a woman's marriage come together, the pieces come together in a way that ends with a twist and a chill of understanding. The second story, Bluelight Special, is told with a deft touch, a bit of light humor, and a Godfather-esque twist that brings new life to the old trope of revenge and justice.

I don't know a lot about horses, but Black's writing was skilled enough to give me enough authentic details to make the story come alive and help me learn a little without bogging down in too much information. Both of these stories are skillfully told and will please any lover of crime fiction. The excellent horse details give these stories a final victory lap.

For a short story, this one packs a wallop. Cyril Landry, enforcer and horse owner, has his own sense of justice and uses it to come to the aid of an exercise rider injured by a cruel trainer. As a horse owner myself, I have a particular hatred for this type of trainer so this story was perfect, in my eyes. Cyril, I have some names for you....

I really like Ms. Black's novels. This was apparently an earlier one and the writing was not quite so polished as her other series. Evidently it comes under the Romance category which I usually do not read. But, I liked the book and the story.

This is an excellent author. I just wish she had many more mysterys with horse racing. This contained two short stories, both were great reads but of course, too short. She leaves you wanting more, 'cause she 's just that good.

It is two stories. I am not found of short stories to begin with...no time to really get to know and feel for the characters. The first one is miscombobulated and sureal. The writer writes the story as part of the story. Second one over so fast l bately remember it. Better horse stories out there.

I've read a couple of J. Carson Black's books now and they have all been really good to read. Well written, correct spelling, edited correctly. Even my teenagers read this one (two, really) and enjoyed it, but it was probably a bit too short.

The stories were enjoyable for someone like me who doesn't know a real lot about horses, but my daughter who is a horse person said the details were correct.

For a good, quick read, this is worth downloading and enjoying.

Two horse related short stories with a unique twist to the first one and revenge in the second one which the title came from. More about the people in the horse racing world.

This was a confusing book. It was hard to follow, although it came together at the end. I never really was sure as to what really happened to the leading character from the beginning of the book until the end, and then I was still confused. I do not think that this was one of the best efforts of the author.
I have enjoyed some of the other books that I have read from your selections much better..
