*This product is much less expensive than simichrome. (7oz tub for 6 bucks vs 8.8oz can of paste for $25).
*This has a consistency that is creamy like sour cream vs a paste. I think it takes a little more time and effort to get comparable results, as the paste seems to go farther.
*It seems to leave a residue on some items. Objects that I thought were polished and clean tend to develop a slight film a few hours later, and require some additional elbow-work.
*It does leaves behind a brilliant glossy shine that is incredible- better than simichrome. Although for some reason, it doesn't seem to work as well as simichrome on crystal and glass.
Both products have their uses and work very well. I've been starting out with simichrome on really grungy stuff and using this more as a finishing polish. The shine is really gorgeous! Definitely a good purchase, especially for the cost.
Secondly, this didn't work well on old stainless..but it worked great on old brass.
5 minutes of your time, some clean cloths, some elbow grease, and you've got instant chrome finish.
after about 3 strokes of using the product, i already saw a black film developing on the cloth. it works very well.
It does smell bad though.
Bluemagic metal polish cream is essentially Brasso dyed blue with more abrasive content. It contains ammonia and will react with aluminum and stainless steel by developing a black oxide layer that is buffed off. It also creates a noxious gas as a result of this reaction, so I highly recommend wearing a respirator or working in a well ventilated area.
The Bluemagic will not fix scratches or pitting. It will give brushed stainless a shinier luster, and it will rejuvenate polished stainless steel surfaces and chromed surfaces. I bought it mainly for my exhaust pipe tips on my cars and motorcycle. On one particular car, which has a direct injection turbocharged engine, the tips will become coated with a thick layer of soot within a few minutes of driving. This is a common problem with direct injected engines. Look at any Audi car made within the last 10 years and their exhaust tips will be coated with black soot. This is not the result of using 93 octane fuel, but rather a combustion byproduct of a direct injected engine.
More and more vehicle OEMs are switching to direct fuel injection for better fuel economy, more horsepower, and better fuel metering. This means we get better engine performance, but the exhaust tips start to look nasty after a few miles. This is where Bluemagic comes in. I was able to get rid of some of the soot using regular polishing compound. However, Bluemagic got rid of all the hard soot deposits. Unfortunately, it couldn't do anything for the pitted surfaces. But it was able to get the chromed mirror-like surfaces looking better than new.
On my other car, the tips just looked a little worse for wear but the mirror polished T304 tips were still in good shape. The Bluemagic shined it right up.Read more ›
