I wanted to use the ViewSonic 24" monitor (VX2450wm-LED) with the latest MacBook Pro 13" Retina. The monitor, though quite decent, has only the DVI and analog connectors. First I tried Apple's own Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter (MB570Z/A). This adapter worked fine with my previous MacBook Pro (15", 2011 model), but with the MBPR it caused the monitor to loose signal on wake up, i.e. show white noise every other time. After that I tried a couple of HDMI to DVI adapters - same problem, even more often. Quick search on the internet turned up similar complaints from many other users.

On a hunch, I decided to try this BlueRigger cable (the hunch being that Apple's Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter is known to have issues, and there were too many complaints regarding the HDMI-to-DVI path).

This cable works flawlessly. Not only that, it is a beautifully made piece, if that can be said about a cable: it's relatively light and supple - which actually pays if you rest your MBPR on an elevated stand, as it doesn't try to wiggle out of the Thunderbolt jack like stiffer and heavier cables do. The thumbscrews on the DVI plug are nicely elongated and make a lot easier to tighten. All (digital) pins of the DVI plug are populated. The lifetime warranty adds to peace of mind, obviously. An icing on the cake is that the cable is designed by a company with headquarters in Bellevue, WA - keep up the good work!

I ordered two of these cables for use with a multi-monitor Eyefinity setup, as my Radeon 7870 has 2 MiniDisplayPort slots and all 3 of my monitors are DVI only. First off, the quality on these cables seems good, and these are great for what they are: a PASSIVE MiniDisplayPort to DVI adapter.

Nowhere in the description for this product does it specify if this is active or passive, so let me explain. A Passive adapter still uses DVI signals to communicate, it just allows that DVI signal to travel through the MiniDisplayPort connector. If you connect a Passive adapter, your PC will detect the connection as a DVI Connection. This is a bad thing when you are using a multi-monitor setup, as you are limited to only 2 DVI connections with Radeon cards. I do not know if Nvidia limits the DVI connections in the same way.

Conversely, an ACTIVE adapter, which this cable is NOT, will actually communicate using the Display Port signal. This means it is detected by the PC as DisplayPort, and will enable the use of more than 2 monitors. If you intend to buy this product for a multi-monitor setup, look elsewhere, as this will not help you. There is an Active adapter sold by the company "Accell" which ended up solving my issue. I believe the description of this product should be altered to at least say this is a passive adapter, so that future buyers are not disappointed as I was.

my lone complaint is probably half the fault of my monitor company as wel, but I can't really complain about a high-quality samsung monitor that has been nearly perfect itself for almost 6 years...

the cable is nice, not flimsy, has that "not too gloosy, not too grippy; it matches everything else I have from apple" feel... but the screw posts that hold the connector into my monitor aren't long enough.

thankfully, it's a new connector, going into a female connector that had one other male connector attached and secured with the screws as well almost 6 years ago and never removed, so everything is snug and tight. otherwise, the screw posts on either side of the DVI end of it aren't extending long enough to catch their threads on the female parts of the monitor. it hasn't fallen out, so it's not an issue. yet. if it does begin to fall out (due to time and gravity conspiring against me), then I'll probably grab a fiber cut-off disc for my dremel and knock down the thumbscrew grips on the back end to hopefully allow the posts to go farther out the other side. until then, the cable itself functions just fine.

after typing the review, I'll hopefully not think of it again and not risk jinxing myself and letting the laws of newton, einstein, and murphy win.

I needed an all-in-one cable to attach my Macbook Pro to a Dell 24" 1920x1200 monitor, and this bad boy does the trick. It's thick, stable, and the connectors are high quality. The threads on the screws are strong and are easy to adjust, even when all I have is touch and can't see it. There's no sense in paying a lot more for first-party cables.

I bought this cable to replace one I had purchased from another retailer that failed after about a year of use. After plugging in this cable, I'm a little glad that the old one stopped working as this cable is superior at a better price than the old cable.

For the most part, a cable is a pass/fail affair. This cable works, so it's acceptable on that level. But it compares favorably to other similarly priced cables because of the Mini DisplayPort connector. In contrast to the last cable I used, this cable's Mini DisplayPort cable is small, so it doesn't block the adjacent USB port on my 2010 MacBook Pro.

If you need a basic single-link cable (e.g., to connect to a HDTV or similar-resolution monitor) this a good buy. However, if you need to connect to a higher resolution display, you'll need to buy a (much pricier) dual-link cable.
