From the Author
I started writing BLUEBONNETS FOR ELLY during National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) with the goal of creating a love story. However, as I got into the plot and began to know my characters better, Elly's grandmother kept butting in. I finally had to let Granny have her say. The end result is a book that not only shows the romance between a man and a woman, but also the relationship between a grandmother and her granddaughter.
I hope readers enjoy the interaction between these two women, as well as the sparks that fly between Elly and Derek. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.
About the Author
Sandra Nachlinger is a writer of contemporary women's fiction and romance. A native Texan, her novels BLUEBONNETS FOR ELLY and I.O.U. SEX are set in the North Texas area. Sandra's shorter works have appeared in Woman's World magazine, Sasee online magazine, and other publications. Over the years Sandra has worked for a variety of businesses - CPA firm, major oil company, real estate title company, "wildcatter" oilman (think J. R. Ewing), and NASCAR race track. She has lived in Dallas, Irving, and Beaumont, Texas; Miami, Florida; and now Washington State. She loves to travel and keep journals (written and photographic) of each trip. Most exciting and memorable place Sandra has been? She hiked from León to Santiago de Compostela, Spain - a once-in-a-lifetime experience she'll treasure always. When not writing, Sandra likes to quilt, read, sew, garden, take photos, lunch with friends, and (like Granny in her second book, BLUEBONNETS FOR ELLY) spend as much time as possible with her granddaughter. Derek White is jaded and cautious when it comes to relationships and love—plus he has a past he’d rather not reveal. Too bad for him as there’s something about Elly that has him thinking and feeling things he’d rather ignore.
I looked forward to reading this book as it was the first I’ve purchased by this author. I wasn’t disappointed. Sandra’s story kept me reading from the first chapter through to the end, and that’s saying a lot. The dialogue was believable and the characters were so well presented that I felt myself drawn to them in a way that pulls you toward people you like. Derek and Elly are the type of characters who’d make great friends and neighbors.
The chemistry and passion are perfect—just enough to get things hot then let your imagination take over.
This was a wonderful story with all the elements of a good romance plus some suspense thrown in to make it move along at a good pace.
I’d highly recommend Bluebonnets for Elly to anyone looking for a beautiful romance. I’m looking forward to more books from Ms. Nachlinger!
This is the first book I've read by this author, Sandra Nachlinger I noticed it when I was visiting her blog, "Writing With a Texas Twang." Loved the cover and read the books description, I decided it sounded like my cup of tea and I wasn't disappointed. It was neither to hot nor to cool...Like Goldilocks said, "It was just right..."
I enjoyed reading this contemporary romance novel. I realize they always end with happily-everafter endings however, the fun is all the twists and turns they take to get to the happy endings. It was full of passion, hidden secrets, mystery and likable characters. It was a fast read from page one to the end.
This book is part of my Kindle library. I found it an enjoyable read and decided to award it 4 'Bluebonnet' stars.
What I like most about the novel is the unique setting. The story is a romance with a bit of mystery, but the main characters, who are youthful, must deal with the retirement community—and of course, the one lady (in every community) who acts as the local busy-body and enforcer of rules.
This is a quick, amusing read. While the sun is still shining outside, grab the last rays of the summer season, a comfortable chair, and have some fun with “Bluebonnets for Elly.”
Unfortunately, Elly has been there longer. Disguises are now part of her everyday life, as she shuttles around the neighborhood in Granny's golf cart.
Determined to eventually find a suitable job after leaving Granny's, Elly searches online for possibilities, but it's an overheard conversation in the local café that turns her on to something unique. She has been clearing out Granny's house and shed, and listing items for sale. What if others in the park could also use this organizational service? Desperation often breeds creativity, as she soon discovers.
To spice things up for Elly, and also to complicate her life, she has met a hunky landscape artist named Derek. When things heat up between them, she is suddenly besieged by calls from Rick, wanting to talk. And then, unexpectedly, Derek's past comes back to bite them.
What will Elly do to turn her life around? How will she find love when every man she meets seems to be untrustworthy? Can Derek redeem himself?
Bluebonnets for Elly was a delightful tale of love, creative inspiration, the wisdom of senior citizens, and the unexpected treasures one can discover in a field of gorgeous flowers. My favorite character was Granny, who came out with charming sayings that reminded me of my own grandmother, but I also enjoyed Elly's feisty character and her determination to find happiness. Five stars.
