Distinctive Design

Body Wood Selections

With a top of finest solid Adirondack spruce, a tone of great volume and refined quality is assured. The neck is of solid mahogany, chosen for its beauty as well as its stability. Santos rosewood is chosen for the backs and sides and the peghead overlays. You’ll be hard pressed to find such a combination of fine tonewoods in any other make of guitars at this affordable price point and the legendary Blueridge tone is found in every series and every model that we manufacture.

Fingerboards and Fittings

Select East Indian rosewood is used for the bridges and fingerboards of all models in this series. The finest available tuning machines, styled in the vintage manner, are fitted to each Blueridge in this line. The highest series, the BR-70 models, feature gold-plated tuners and the other models have tuners plated in nickel. Genuine bone is used for both nut and saddle. The traditional teardrop shaped pickguard is made of black ABS.

Construction

All the Prewar-style interior construction details of our higher priced models are here in the Contemporary Craftsman Series. A small, maple bridge plate reinforces the underside of the top and forward-X spruce bracing of just the right dimensions guarantees the perfect balance of top strength and flexibility. The result is the famous Blueridge tone and volume - unequalled even by other makes costing many times more. The body binding is black ABS for our mahogany models and white ABS for the models in rosewood. A nut width of 1' and the corresponding spacing of the strings at the bridge saddle guarantees playing ease for both hands in every musical style.

The Details

Every model in this line features tasteful pearl inlay and subtle design touches that speak of understated quality. Mother-of-pearl position dots are used in the rosewood fingerboard while the top series features distinctive hexagonal outlines of Abalone pearl. The top series also features lavish Abalone pearl bordering the top and the central ring of the sound hole rosette. A beautifully shaded sunburst top contrasts with dark back and sides to create a stylish guitar that looks far more expensive than it really is!

Frankly, I wasn't at all certain about purchasing a guitar on-line, but after a lot of research I decided that the BR-60 was the right tool for me, and I placed the order. As has been the norm for me, the guitar (and the case that I ordered at the same time) arrive in a couple of days, and everything was in great condition. I fully expected that I would have to take the guitar to my local tech for a setup and was amazed when I brought it up to tune how well it was out of the box. The tech that looked at it was likewise amazed and didn't have to make any adjustments from the factory settings. It speaks highly of the folks at Blueridge that it can be so stable after shipping across the country.

As for the guitar, it's everything that I was looking for. I was looking for a box with a boomier low end for the rhythm bluegrass stuff that I generally play and this is much more like a Martin than the low end Taylor that I've been playing. The action was good, and the intonation true. I fretted over whether to go with the BR-160 with the solid sides and back and finally decided that price was a factor, and that my experience with plywood backs and sides on other guitars made it worth the risk (and I don't think anyone will likely be about to tell the difference at first blush). Yes, it's not a Martin and it's made in China, but I was looking for a tool, not a collectible and this meets my needs well, at a price that doesn't leave me in a panic when I make a wrong turn and bump into someone else. All in all this purchase has been a great experience and I would not hesitate in buying on-line provided I spent a bunch of time doing on-line research prior to the purchase.

I've been playing guitar for over 30 years. I have a vintage Gibson, and a newer Gibson Hummingbird Pro, among other guitars. I played a couple of used Blueridge guitars in guitar shops here and in London. I was very impressed in both cases (in fact, in London the guitar was tagged "not for sale" in a shop full of expensive vintage instruments...the store owner said he was keeping it for himself because he really liked the way it sounded/played...which I thought was pretty amusing given its China origins and low cost.) I had no idea where Blueridge guitars were sold since I'd only seen the used instruments in shops, and happened across the brand on Amazon. I've never bought an instrument without playing it first, so I held off quite a while before buying this one. I wanted a guitar I could travel with that I wouldn't worry about being stolen from a hotel room, or dinged up. The other inexpensive guitars I've bought for this purpose always let me down, so I tended to leave them home. Finally, I decided to take the chance and ordered this guitar. I have to say, I'm very happy I did so. While it's not the equal of my far more expensive Gibsons, it is very well made, looks good, sounds and plays terrific for the price right out of the box...and even independent of the price. Just a nice instrument. The only negative was the poor quality of the shipping carton. My guitar suffered a slight dent on the back...not so bad I am bothered, but I was surprised by how lightly it was packed.

Otherwise, a very good choice for a nice, inexpensive guitar that looks and sounds like a more expensive one. Highly recommended.Blueridge BR-60 Contemporary Dreadnaught Guitar with Santos Rosewood Back and Sides

The guitar was set up nicely and sounded good, however the finished was damaged with no visual package damage, it looks like it was damaged at the factory. i would have opted for a replacement but didn't want to take a chance with quality control that is that poor.
Update, I wrote to the factory and sent them a picture of the guitar, they claim the guitar was dropped and most likely shipping damage even though the box was in great condition, so i guess they need to change their shipping packages.

Received on third business day after ordering. Just out of the box the glossy Rosewood back and sides are very very impressive. It is light weight and very easy to hold and play. NO additional set-up required as far as I'am conserned. It has a loud crisp base and balanced treble sound. The bone nut and saddle give it a great sound. Action is low and easy to play. It sounds just as good through my acoustic amp. The 14:1 tuning keys hold the strings in tune and it is easy to treek the note when tuning. Would definately recommend you check this guitar out, as you may like it as well or better than guitars costing two or there times as much.

I was looking for a nice guitar and having owned mostly Gibson guitars in the past, I was looking at Gibson and Martin guitars when I happened to play this little jewel. The sound of this guitar rivals or exceeds the sound from ones costing twice as much or more and from the first chord it was obvious that this was a keeper. The fit and finish is flawless. The Adirondack spruce top, rosewood back and sides and pre-war forward X bracing makes this guitar one of the best sounding guitars I have ever played. For the price you will be hard pressed to find a better sounding or better looking guitar.
