If you thought periwinkle was only a color, guess again. And while you're guessing, you're ready to play Blue's Clues, the wildly popular Nick Jr. show hosted by Steve Burns. Steve's appeal is that of a cool babysitter who kids adore and parents trust. Wearing his standard khakis and green rugby shirt, Steve sings, dances, and "skadoos" through a computer-generated world of animated objects and colors as yummy as fruit-striped gum. His dog, Blue, leads him in guessing games by leaving pawprints as "clues" that Steve (and viewers) must find and record in their handy-dandy notebook. The show's goal is to promote critical thinking while engaging kids in problem solving. Steve's earnestness adds the chemistry that makes it a hit. "Will you help me?" he asks young viewers with the sincerity of a trusted confidante as he steps up close to the camera, pausing to wait for a reply. Playtime with Periwinkle continues the winning formula with two 25-minute tales. In "Blue's Big Mystery," Steve and Blue find a magic fort in their neighborhood and wonder, Who is the mystery builder? A series of clue-solving questions will promote deductive reasoning and observation skills as young audiences uncover the mystery of Blue's new friend. In the second episode, "Periwinkle Misses His Friend," Blue's new neighbor is homesick for his old friend Plum, until Steve and friends suggest ideas to cheer him up. Introducing Periwinkle and Talking about Missing Friends

A lot is covered in this video! Blue and Steve meet a new neighbor, Periwinkle, by finding Clues. Then in the next story, they help new friend Periwinkle cope with missing a friend from the city.
My son is almost two and he adores Blue and Steve and all their friends. This video kept him interested. Of course, he is too young to understand about missing a friend, but he knows about meeting new friends.
Yeah for Steve and Blue! Keep up the good work!

This is an entertaining video. My son loves Blue's Clues...but not until he was about 2 yrs old. Earlier, he did not "get it" in terms of "finding a paw print". Another great Blue's episode that I am not sure is still out is "ABCs & 123s". At 25 months, I swear my son understands how READING works from this video! The counting part is really good too. My son tries to count everything! However, for those of you looking for more ASL sign language for kids, the BEST by far, are the series called Signing Times. website is [...] There are six videos/DVDs in the series that increase in complication. The first one is "basic" signs like milk, eat, apple, more, etc. I started showing this to my son at 8 months and he was signing to ME from the highchair at 10 months. Then, I added the next volume(please, thank you, share, etc) to his viewing and so on. At 25 months, he knows over 50 signs and uses them. He sometimes can't make the sign exactly right with his hands...but,I know what he means to say and that is the goal (increased communication between you)! I must say, I've learned all the signs myself! Her style of teaching is entertaining and it sinks in! [...] check it out.

My daughter is deaf and loves watching blue's clue, so I was some what disappointed with the limited signing. There was a small protion of consistent signing during story time, but that was a small segment.

I was expecting signing throughout the entire tape.

I bought this tape primarily for the sign language. While Marlee Matlin is on for a few seconds and Steve signs a bit, the focus is very much on directional signs, NOT sign language. These are good Blue's episodes, we love Blue, but for learning to sign......keep looking.
