The plastic that these bottles are made of is very thin; I remarked to my husband that we'd better be careful never to drop one of these full, as I'm sure it would shatter the plastic. Also, the top of the bottle is shaped differently than a standard 5 gallon water bottle, I suppose due to the screw cap (as opposed to standard compression cap), but this results in it not working for water cooler fittings which are designed for the standard shape. Due to the different shape of the top, and the thinness of the plastic, when our cooler pressurizes the bottle, in order to pull the water into the reservoir, the bottle cannot withstand the pressure, and the fitting pops off the top of the bottle. (As an aside, both of the bottles have bubbles in the plastic near the top lip, where the plastic was poured, where the plastic is even thinner. This defect does not appear to affect the functioning of the bottle, but I think it may shorten the overall life of the bottle.)
I purchased two standard bottles for our cooler, and have not had any problems since. I regret not being able to choose a high-quality BPA-free plastic, for a reasonable price, but it just doesn't seem to be available at this time. These Bluewave bottles are on their way back to Amazon!
Bluewave BPA Free 5 Gallon Reusable Water Bottle
We just spent the last 20 minutes using all of our family towels and beach towels cleaning up one of your 5 gallon bottles that nearly exploded as it slipped off our low cart (less than 6 inches) and hit our wood floors--sending water everywhere across our wood floors. A few children's books, my wife's dance bag, various other items, etc...are drenched and some things ruined.
We were very happy to get 6 of your BPA free bottles and one tapper to only now discover that the materials you used are NOT at all impact resistant in the least and in some way sub-standard to regular use or as you say re-use on your site. We are very very unhappy at this moment with your product and wonder how many trips to get spring water we'll get with your bottles.
Other bottles we've used that have accidentally slipped off never cracked, broke, etc. Your bottle cracked and opened up like a water balloon once its surface integrity had been breached--when it hit the ground. I wish I was exaggerating. We bought yours because they are BPA free.
Here was their response:
Thank you for your message. We are sincerely sorry to hear about the
incident with the 5 gallon bottle you purchased and used. We will send you
a replacement right away. You should receive it shortly
In regards to your questions and concerns about the plastic material used
for the bottle; you are correct that there are other plastic bottles that
can withstand drops and are more durable. However, similar bottles are
either made out of non-BPA free plastic, leeching plastic, and/or
non-reusable plastic.Read more ›
I agree with the reviews on the extreme fragility of the bottles. I was filling the bottles at a local mart and set a full one in my shopping cart which was a little deeper than the carts I usually use. Instead of setting it gently and completely in the cart I let it (slip) drop about 2 inches into the cart. The combined weight and impact caused a 2 inch split in the bottle and a very quick exit by me from the store, dripping water as I went.
I will continue to use the two remaining bottles, while being very careful. I am a pretty meticulous guy so I can get along with them, but they are hard to positively recommend to a casual user.

We have been buying these bottles for some time (since gen1) and these new bottles are thin walled, flimsy and crack readily. Read morePublished 1 month ago by NVUSReviewer
Good BPA-free 5gal, is thinner and more fragile than others though.Published 2 months ago by reviewer0285y2305729
Bottle is fragile. Smallest impact will cause it to break. Spent the last 2 days drying out car after 5 gallons spilled in the trunk and flowed into the backseat. Read morePublished 5 months ago by Kashif
