No matter how hard your cabinet doors are shut, get a smooth, silent close with Blumotion. Installation is quick and easy and once fitted, the Blumotion system creates a perfect closing motion every time. It reacts automatically to door size, door weight and closing speed and then brakes the motion of the door accordingly. Comes in two styles, Blumotion for Compact Hinges and Blumotion snap-on style, that will accommodate most situations where European style hinges are in use. Blumotion for Compact Hinges was developed especially for use with Blum Compact Hinges but actually can be used with any style of European self closing hinge because it mounts directly to the cabinet. Usually one per door will suffice but large and heavier doors may require more than one. Mounting hardware and instructions included.
Top customer reviews
Both devices have a flange that really should be snug against the cabinet frame. This gives it much more strength. It is much easier to achieve that tight fit with the SoftClose.
The SoftClose has an angled entry screw so it is easy to get the proper pilot hole drilled. With the Blumotion, unless you have a new thin design driver you may have to use a flexible shaft to get the pilot hole correct. (I happen to have one).
The SoftClose is a smaller device - less noticeable. The Blumotion is beefy but I have friends that have had no issues with the SoftClose after a few years.
I can install the SoftClose in half the time. I suspect both devices will be just fine in the long run, so easy installation nails it for me.
The rounded tip of the end that contacts the cabinet is also a nice touch vs other brands because it makes for a smoother close. Other brands you can tell when the cabinet hits the "spring" because it abruptly changes speeds. With the blumotion it smoothly transitions to a slower close.
The look of these was actually more preferable, in my opinion, to other brands as well. It looks more like something that should be in your cabinet, while the other brands (although they may look better in the pictures) when installed, they look like something that you added to your cabinet, if you know what I mean. IE: they don't look like original hardware. Of course everyone's cabinets are different but my home has a fairly traditional cabinet look (video included).
Adjustability is great on these. The 2 other brands I used looked easier to adjust at first (both had set screws on the back of the mechanism, but ended up requiring MAXIMUM stiff settings for some of the larger pantry doors in my kitchen and still could not handle their weight.
My only complaint about these is the horizontal orientation of the screw. This makes it harder to screw into the cabinet because most drills/drivers need more clearance than the couple inches. The other brands I tried screwed in diagonally, making install a breeze. However, the overall quality of this product makes this minor drawback acceptable and in my opinion, adds to their "original" hardware look.
Conclusion: I started by ordering one of each of 3 different kits from amazon, I liked these the best, so trust me if you're looking for a soft close conversion, these are going to be the best ones to use. You do NOT want to have to remove one of the lesser brands from your cabinet to install this kind, as it may not fit as well, BUT the 2" screws certainly hold these in place well, compared to other brands that use much shorter screws but ultimately don't hold as well in place and are visibly shocked while closing doors.
