It has been several months since I have read this book, so I would like to take the opportunity to pick my own brain to see why I have given the "I like it" rating that I have.
First and foremost, I was surprised to learn that there was an obstinate coal fire in one of the ship's bunkers. (Whether this had anything to do with the ship's actual sinking is under debate...nobody knows if the heat from the fire caused enough damage to weaken the outer hull enough to fail when the ship hit the iceberg.)
Lots of first person accounts of the sinking and evacuation by passengers and crew, of course this is what made for the book's original publication, not too long after the disaster.
The most memorable part of the book to me came when the ship that carried the survivors, sailed into the port of New York. I won't give away any of the particulars, but the survivor's accounts of what transpired at that time were unforgettable.
I will endorse this book for those who would like to read about what the passengers themselves had to say about the Titanic's demise. I will also advise that the Kindle version may be a better format to purchase over that of the paperback.
