The second they meet they know this. They know they there is something special about the other. Though putting their hearts out there, risking the chance of heartbreak, they know that in order to be happy they need to take that leap of faith.
This book....I don't even know how to fully put into words how much this book effected me. From the first word to the last I was hooked, and this couple (and this whole book of course) will always be a top favorite.
LOVE LOVE LOVED THIS SERIES!! A HUGE five stars to the lovely Toni Aleo
The Bellevue Bullies series is even better.
This follows the lives of the Sinclair brothers, hockey phenoms who are in college, ready to be drafted into the NHL. This first book is the story of Jude and Clair. We first meet Clair in the Assassins series. Her uncle is Phillip Anderson and he took her in after her mom died. The story starts out with Clair in her new job, as a burlesque dancer. It pulls you in from the first chapter. I couldn't put it down.
In this story we have Jude - resident player, both in hockey and with the ladies. He has his sight set on being the best and taking his team all the way to the championship. Next we have Claire who has hopes and dreams of her own and has had to overcome some pretty hard stuff to get where she is. Ms. Aleo crosses her Assassins in this book as Claire is the niece of one of their players which allows us some peeks into what is going on with a few of our favorite Assassins.
However, secrets and half truths come out in a way that could threaten the budding romance. One player is all in, one is struggling. How will they separate the truths and the feelings? I will tell you it was a beautiful thing.
The characters are fine. Nice people. Total insta-love here. I was uncomfortable with their age and instant commitment to each other, but I guess it can happen.
What bothered me was that the story should have been told in about 30 to 40% less book. The book as it is is SO REPETITIOUS it drove me nuts! Jude's chapters especially were filled with pronouncements of adoration for Claire, it started to become monotonous and rather nauseating. After the 1000th time he tells how much he loves her and will do so until his dying day, I was ready to throw the book out. Unfortunately for me, I was listening to the audio version, so I couldn't skip forward very well.
The other thing that is annoying about the book is that the plot is completely transparent. You know exactly what is going to happen with each person in the book. NO surprises at all. The only talent shown by the author was in her explanations of how everyone was feeling.
Unrealistic? You bet! A young girl, not even 20 is working as a dancer in a gentleman's club. Serving drinks seems to be part of the job, at least for one of the characters who is also not 21 yet. Isn't that illegal? And this was supposed to be a classy establishment?! And she has only been dancing for 3 years and manages to have awards already and lands an amazing job? Yeah, right!
I finally gave up on the audiobook and finished it on my Kindle, so I could skim the boring stuff. It ended exactly the way I expected. I'm sorry if this is a spoiler, but you can predict the outcome of everything from about 10 pages into the book.
If you love flowery, mushy, lovey goo- this is the book for you. Enjoy!
Claire is keeping a secret from Jude, an important one too. After s*** starts hitting the fan and Jude finds out what Clair's been keeping from him his insecurities and stubbornness keep them apart. Giving I'm somewhat Jude is secret present when Claire's biggest life performance is showcased. When Philip takes one for the team helps to heal Jude as well as helping him realize he can't ever live without Claire.
