I filled the second dispenser with liquid soap from a local consumer store. This pump worked fine for a while. After a month or so, I noticed brown staining around the outside of the pump and viewing window. The soap I used was clear, so I was confused. I used the dispenser for several more months (it's just in the garage) and then decided to clean the brown stain, which by now covered the lower 1/3 of the front of the dispenser. Cleaning revealed pitting on the outside of the stainless and a hole all the way through in the threaded area where the pump is installed. The brown stains were soapy rust and required a wire brush to remove. Interestingly, the inside of the container was corrosion free, as was the spring in the pump.
The dispenser I'm using for hand cleaner is still corrosion free, so I assume the soap dispenser reacted with the particular soap I was using. But my soap was nothing special, and I would expect a "stainless" container to stand up to hand soap readily available to consumers.
Given the extremely cheap plastic pump that didn't pump enough volume of soap and didn't work with thicker liquids and the fact that the low-grade stainless used for this dispenser partially dissolved in regular hand soap, this is one of the most dissapointing purchases I have ever made.
The problem is chemicals don't cause Stainless Steel to rust.
I looked up Stainless Steel on the internet. The whole point of Stainless Steel is that it has all the impurities removed so that it wont rust. Some harsh corrosive industrial chemicals can cause it to corrode or stain, but not rust. Their is a color difference between chemical corrosion versus rust. This was definitely rust and the only chemicals put into the soap dispenser was name brand Soft Soap.
The defective Stainless Steel is a poor grade and is unfortunate that Bobrick will not back their product. I tried to give Airdelights.com the benefit to correct this issue. Not looking for a freebie, just want a good product and a company that will back their product.
The soap dispensers are easy to install all one needs is a screwdriver and a level. If one has a commercial bathroom these are the products to have.
What I didn't know was how to get the black gunk out of the display window, never realizing that they have a design flaw. Approximately .5" of soap sits below the dispensing valve. You see the soap is low, so you fill it up, but the soap that is below the never gets changed out. All soap degrades. Soft Soap asserts that their soap has stability for two years after manufacturing. Thus the bottom of this dispenser becomes a holding tank for impurities, not a way to clean your hands.
Once I realized that was mold growing in the windows, all the dispensers were emptied at which time large chunks of mold came out.
Since the units cannot be opened fully, it took many washings with much shaking before no more black mold came out. Each unit was then disinfected with hospital grade disinfectant and refilled.
It took about 7 months before I noticed that the soap was again changing viscosity and color. Again I cleaned the dispenser with a much lesser amount of black mold coming out. It was then that I realized that there is a small channel where the back is pressed into the front of the unit filled with black mold. Yikes.
Bobrick said that all of this is impossible, the units were out of warranty and they would not send anyone to look at the problem. We just called them to ask for a solution, but they did not seem interested in helping us find one. But careful thinking about it, the problem is partly a flawed design that never allows for complete emptying or cleaning of the dispenser.Read more ›
