I can't speak on the health aspects if these, but if you are reading this review I am sure you are not unlike me and read how good for you they were. Beyond the health aspect these are delicious and a great addition to our pantry. I first ate them in a salad I had from Bread Co. and was delighted by their subtle nutty taste and firm but slightly chewy texture. After seeing several different recipes for them in a variety of magazines, I pulled the trigger and ordered some. We use them mostly in salads and really enjoy the change from everyday lettuce, it also makes us think we are eating a bit more seasonably. We have had some success with them as a side dish as well making both a pilaf and a risotto type dishes with them. These are a great addition to our pantry and we will be ordering more. They are a bit expensive but they are tough to find. Also, they are quite filling which is a good thing in my book.
This is such a delicious and healthy grain. The first time I had wheat berries was at a potluck and ever since I have been a fan. The texture and taste are great. It also has a lot of protein and fiber and is extremely versatile. It does need about one hour to simmer. I rinse the berries and make a lot at one time because it keeps well in the frig.
One of my cats loves wheat grass. A small container was $2.99 so purchased this, some potting soil and am growing my own. I do wrap the berries in a damp paper towel for 24 hours, then plant, and it grows. Super easy. I save money, cat still gets his grass.
I purchased this item so that whenever I want to bake using whole wheat flour I can grind as much as I need and not have a whole 5 lbs. setting around going stale. Have not used it yet but it came packaged very well and was in one piece - as shown in the picture. Can't wait to try it.
Bob’s always has the best quality products. I’m using these right now to grow Wheatgrass. My Son loves wheatgrass juice shots. I’m going to have some too. Already they are sprouting and looking good. I sneak a nibble of a few grains every time I rinse them. 😄
I got these when I couldn't find them in my local grocery store (and didn't feel like putting in a lot of effort) when I wanted to make a recipe from Alton Brown's new cookbook. They're delicious!
I'd not previously eaten wheat berries but recently read a lot about their nutritious benefits etc. I was converted to them immediately I tasted them! Almost a nutty flavour, great texture and "bite" and very versatile to add to many different dishes or to serve as a veg or side dish on their own. They do take a lot of cooking, so factor that into whatever you're cooking, but well worth the time.
