Misr Wot recipe:
1 cup of these red lentils
1 small read onion
4 cloves garlic
1 Tb Berbere (spice blend, you can buy it pre-made)
Ethiopian spiced butter/real butter/vegan butter/etc
1 inch fresh garlic (or 1 1/2 tbsp powdered)
4 C water
Saute red onion however much butter you want, 1 or Tb works, 10 minutes or until starting to brown, added minced garlic, and ginger, stir and sautee for another minute. Add 4 cups water, lentils, and Berbere. Bring to simmer and stir occasionally. 40-45 minutes or however long the water reduces and it becomes a stew.
During the cook time I'll have made yellow rice (Bobs Red Mill brown rice with cumin and turmeric) in my Instantpot and roasted some veggies in the oven which. I serve the Misr Wot over the rice and veggies on the side. Yum yum yummy yum.
I regularly incorporate numerous types of dried beans into meals; so easy to prepare, tasty, and economical. These red lentils are exceptionally convenient. Mild tasting and quick to prepare, no soaking required, a very tender chew. A great starting bean for people getting introduced to dried beans.
Red lentil can be incorporated in many dishes: soups, stews, rice side dishes, Mexican dishes, pasts and pasta salads, or simply eaten as a side dish with seasonings of your choice. For a quick and easy side dish, combined prepared red lentils, cooked brown basmati rice, sautéed veggies and herbs of your choice, a bit of olive oil, and bacon if desired. Yum and just as good warmed up the next day.
