Do you have 4 minutes?
The French press coffee maker is the simplest of all brewing systems, where coarsely ground beans meet hot water right off the boil. The right temperature (92–96 °C, 195–205 °F) brings the optimal extraction power for the essential oils in the beans to develop their full flavor profile in just four minutes. An easy press on the plunger locks the grinds at the bottom of the glass carafe and stops the brewing process.
- Body, handle, & lid made of BPA free plastic
- Beaker is made of heat resistant borosilicate glass
- Filter & plunger is made of stainless steel
- Brews & makes delicious coffee
- Made in Portugal
How to brew French press coffee:
For each 4-ounce cup, put 1 rounded tablespoon or 1 Bodum scoop of coarse-ground coffee into the pot.
Pour hot (not boiling) water into the pot. Leave a minimum of 1 inch of space at the top. Stir with a plastic spoon.
Place the plunger unit on top of the pot. Turn lid to close off the pour spout opening. Do not press down. Let the coffee brew for 4 minutes.
After 4 minutes press down the plunger and enjoy.
Available spare parts:
French press coffee makers feature a durable borosilicate beaker. Borosilicate glass is an outstanding material: It is ultra-light and strong, has great heat resistant properties, and will not get cloudy in the dishwasher.
The spiral plate keeps the filter mesh in place and makes sure that water goes through but no ground coffee. The flexible spiral provides a universal fit taking into account the manufacturing tolerances of glass jugs.
The filter mesh is a key component to the Bodum coffee makers. It separates the ground coffee beans from the water after the brewing has stopped.
The cross plate holds the mesh in place together with the spiral plate.

The Ability to Count
Step 1: Measure out 60g of your favorite coffee beans and grind to a coarse grind (about 60-70 turns with the Morning Grind Grinder on coarse setting). Place into Bodum 8 Cup French Press.
Step 2: Heat your water to 200 degrees by bringing it to a boil and removing from heat for 60 seconds.
Step 3: Pour in just enough water to cover the grounds. Then wait 30 seconds.
Step 4: Stir then add the rest of the water (32oz total).
Step 5: Cover with the lid with the plunger all the way up.
Step 6: Wait 3 minutes.
Step 7: Slowly push the plunger down to filter the coffee grounds.
Step 8: Serve immediately. If you wait too long, your coffee will get bitter.
The bigger size is nice, too. At first, I thought it was going to be too big, but if you have more than one person drinking coffee, or want more than one small cup, it's the size to get. You can always just fill it less, of course, if you only want a cup or two.
BTW, a coffee "cup" is four ounces. I don't know who though of this. An actual measuring cup is 8 ounces, and mugs often hold more. So really, this makes four cups of coffee, though it actually seems like less (I think because the grounds take up some of the space).
I was a little disappointed to find the replacement glass costs $1-$2 MORE than a whole new french press (same company, same model, same seller here on Amazon). I didn't buy a third and am now using my camping (poly carbonate) french press in the house until I get around to trying a different brand.
They DO make great coffee, but that's a french press thing, not unique to this maker.
