I read the five reviews and realized, "I think this author gets it; I don't need another diet book or program that centers around manipulating food, I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO LOVE MYSELF, treat myself with love." I've read other books that tell me that I need to love myself, accept my body...but how?
And when this book arrived today, that is exactly what the first pages have been about. She asks the right questions for getting in touch with me to understand me, to give myself the benefit of the doubt (being human) to be able to live life, cope without using food as a soother when I miss the mark of perfection. She guides us to the HOW to love ourselves.
Like really, who is perfect and why do I/any of us think anyone else is living a perfect life?
We all make mistakes, do/say things we regret. We learn until we no longer breathe and life is just plain messy.
I can't wait to keep reading and answering the little questions along the way to help me gain perspective, understand my thinking, get to know me and what I really want to do with the rest of my life. And as a result, to finally be free of the love/hate obsession with food. To eat when I'm hungry and then be free of food thoughts until I'm hungry again.
The Body Love Manual is exactly what it states, a Love Manual of exploration. Lily asks the reader to identify the surface motives and the underlying motives that created the body they don't love. With that knowledge Lily takes the reader through a series of steps to retrain and reframe their throughts, their habits, their beliefs.
Nothing in this manual is about denial or dieting. Nothing in this manual is about judgment or rules. This is a loving journey of self to come to understand yourself, who you truly are, and revere, respect and love this wonderful creation called the human body.
