The Body Love Manual - How to Love the Body You Have As You Create the Body You Want (Volume 1) Paperback – July 28, 2009

From Publishers Weekly
Hills, a life coach and self-empowerment workshop leader, shares her philosophy in this ode to mindful eating and cultivating a healthy body image. Hills encourages readers to come to terms with their bodies and engage in some serious self-love via affirmations, meditation, and other introspective exercises. She also urges readers to examine their relationships with food, long-held beliefs about eating, and practices like binging out of fear or avoidance and dieting to lose weight and feel more attractive. Hills's admission that she was once a yo-yo dieter obsessed with body image, along with pertinent statistics, gives her credibility, while her calm, reassuring tone should help readers tackle tough issues (though some, like the lingering effects of sexual abuse, are deftly sidestepped). While Hills's messages—examine why you eat, develop healthy eating habits, and accept your body for what it is instead of what it isn't—aren't particularly new, they aren't particularly harmful either, those interested in cultivating healthier habits through introspection will find this a helpful workbook.

I read the five reviews and realized, "I think this author gets it; I don't need another diet book or program that centers around manipulating food, I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO LOVE MYSELF, treat myself with love." I've read other books that tell me that I need to love myself, accept my body...but how?
And when this book arrived today, that is exactly what the first pages have been about. She asks the right questions for getting in touch with me to understand me, to give myself the benefit of the doubt (being human) to be able to live life, cope without using food as a soother when I miss the mark of perfection. She guides us to the HOW to love ourselves.
Like really, who is perfect and why do I/any of us think anyone else is living a perfect life?
We all make mistakes, do/say things we regret. We learn until we no longer breathe and life is just plain messy.
I can't wait to keep reading and answering the little questions along the way to help me gain perspective, understand my thinking, get to know me and what I really want to do with the rest of my life. And as a result, to finally be free of the love/hate obsession with food. To eat when I'm hungry and then be free of food thoughts until I'm hungry again.
The Body Love Manual is exactly what it states, a Love Manual of exploration. Lily asks the reader to identify the surface motives and the underlying motives that created the body they don't love. With that knowledge Lily takes the reader through a series of steps to retrain and reframe their throughts, their habits, their beliefs.
Nothing in this manual is about denial or dieting. Nothing in this manual is about judgment or rules. This is a loving journey of self to come to understand yourself, who you truly are, and revere, respect and love this wonderful creation called the human body.
The manual is playful, instructful, thoughtful and fun. Your journey is self-paced. Sometimes you move faster. Sometimes you don't move. Through it all Lily shows the reader how to reach their destination with a new-found image of themselves as a loving, healthy, vibrant human being.
If you are interested in being the best you can be, without judgment, counting calories, denial or dieting, then make The Body Love Manual your roadmap. The only question is: Are You Ready to Take the Journey.
