However, what’s really good about this story is that we now have at least a version of Hannah’s family to fill in for the one that Hannah never talks about in the books.
When Hannah goes home as a last-minute stand-in bridesmaid for her sister’s wedding, a wedding to which she wasn’t initially invited, she dreads the return. But a fairy on her shoulder turns the trip from problem to a disaster. However, sometimes a family finds it greatest strength in rising above its challenges.
The story was very entertaining, with an ending that will have me picking up the next book in the series.
It's been years since Hannah Kizer has gone home to see her Mom, step-father Charles, step-sister Sarah and half sister Kayla. She is living in Atlanta and is trying to make a go of a catering business. For good reason, though. She and Sarah never got along and Hannah never felt at home there. So you can imagine her surprise when she got a phone call from her Mom telling her she was needed to be a replacement bridesmaid for Sarah's wedding since the original sprained her ankle. A wedding her sister never even invited her to.
"Who needed enemies when they had family? Especially a family like hers. It was time she taught them a lesson."
"No matter what Hannah had ever done, it hadn't been good enough for the Kizers. After a while, she'd stopped trying to live up to their unreasonable expectations and decided to just embrace herself."
So Hannah dons her most outrageous outfits and arrives with flair, of course, shocking her stuffy step sister and step father. This weekend, though, will prove to be full of surprising revelations of a family history Hannah knew nothing about.
First are the little accidents, both in the van and in her room at her mother's house. Clothing being spilled from her suitcase and ripped up. Boxes falling from shelves. It is from this box that Hannah discovers a photo album and books on witch craft. First of all, what in the world is causing all these accidents? And where did these books come from? One look at a photo in the album of a celtic star pendant and the memories all come rushing back to her.
This is such a fun little magical story about how Hannah discovers the shocking secrets her mom has kept hidden from her all her life. How Hannah stumbles through the weekend, chaos never far behind, but perhaps gaining something in the process.
"She hadn't realized how much she wanted her family to be proud of her. To...care."
As Hannah learns to accept her family's true calling, is it possible that this might finally reunite them and give Hannah the bonds she has yearned for? I am so excited for the next novella to be released in this series to find out what sort of trouble Hannah gets herself in to next.
