“You can only protect yourself against what you can see coming. Once you have been caught off guard, ambushed really, you don’t ever truly recover from that. You have a hard time relating.”
Bo a ex army with a hard past is asked to do the one job he swore to never do again... Protection detail. He know he has no choice but to face the scars of his past and do the best job he can an hope things turn out better this time.
Olivia a prosecutor has lots of enemies and has no idea who is out to kill her. She hates the idea of a body guard but the detectives in charge give her no choice. Problem is she is stubborn and doesnt want to stay in her apartment she needs to do things.
Will Bo be able to keep the Olivia safe or will his heart get in the way again.....
“Well, I was thinking--” she started. “From what I have gathered from you, that could be a dangerous proposition.”
Bo Jackson, an ex-army ranger, works for D.O.T. Recovery Services and has been assigned protection detail, something he used to do in the service and has reasons for not wanting to do so again but his boss insists that he’s the best one for the job and his job is his life. The photograph of his soon to be charge does intrigue him, she’s a good looking woman and that scares this loner a little.
Olivia Woods was minding her own business enjoying a cup of coffee at a café when she becomes the victim of a drive by shooting that authorities believe was directed at her considering she’s the County Prosecutor. The justice department has hired an outside contractor to keep her safe and the idea of a bodyguard does not sit well with her. She’s used to taking care of herself and she hates to admit that she does need help after the trauma of being shot. That’s he’s a handsome man is unexpected.
This story takes place in England and it’s an interesting story. You have a bodyguard who’s protective and caring about not just the safety but the well-being of his charge, it was rather sweet the way they connected with suspense thrown in. You have a tough and sassy woman having to learn how to accept the help of another and enjoying it. Though they are from different worlds they are very much alike, they understand each other, both slaves to professions they like with not much of a life outside of it; until they met they hadn’t realized the lack in their lives.
Having not read the previous book I was surprised to learn that the hero had dreadlocks near the end of the story, we were never given a full description of him like we were of the heroine. It doesn’t matter that he does but it was surprising.
The ARC was provided by the publisher via NetGalley. Unfortunately this version had formatting issues and a serious need for editing that proved to be a distraction, 38 errors noted. I hope these issues were corrected in the published version.
These are only my opinions, and others seem to have really enjoyed it. If you're interested in this book, I suggest that you request a sample to see if it's something that you may enjoy.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
Good flow to the story. HEA ending with no cliffhanger. The only part that threw me for a loop was the mention at the end about Bo's dreads. That came out of nowhere and really didn't seem to fit in anywhere. That being said, I really liked the book and would read more.
As much as I enjoyed the first book this one just fell flat for me. I just couldn't bring myself to enjoy or care about the characters. It was boring and uninteresting to me.
