Meet Priscilla: Wild Child. Bohemian. Constantly flitting between the bed of a wild fling and an affair. Considered lesser by most of her family for not conforming to their norms. But she's so much more beneath the surface.
The story has the absolute sweetest moments with Shane and Priscilla working to make their fake marriage of convenience (pregnancy out of wedlock on one hand and otherwise unachievable promotion on the other) appear more convincing. Trying to make it seem more believable, they spend a lot of time together and during those times their hearts open up to the sturdy businessman and his lovely bohemian. Though from opposing backgrounds and having absolutely contradictory life plans, they find that they share a lot of things in common.
Things progress and though various elements try to disrupt their blossoming romance, and discredit it, they shall not waver... or will they? I won't tell.
The author created a highly unusual start to a story, but it absolutely drew me in. These characters, already presented in her sister's story 2 years ago, have waited for their happy end, their story for a while now, and it did not disappoint. To understand more reasonings behind the character's actions in the other stories published and to see where they go on from here. Mostly though, we got to see them through each others eyes.. and my, did they shine. Shane blossomed into an intruiging character, and Priscilla, the wild one all tamed. To discover all the depth to their stories was fascinating and their love, so gentle, so sweet, so tempestuous, so encompassing and tender, an utter priviledge to bear witness to. Absolutely sweet perfection.
Priscilla is a free-spirit, nonconformist essentially what I'd call a hippie in a sense. Offbeat and one of those who follows her own drum people well that sort of got her into her predicament of sorts. But like everyone she has a need to be accepted as she is and loved for her colorful nature. I like her though unpretentious and true to herself. Can't help but feel bad for her own family seeing her as a black sheep. Shane had a simple life but he wanted something more. A little more steady, a good career and stability. Not the rural farm environment he grew up in. Smart, clean cut and solid guy. While I was sold on him at first I like him with Priscilla brings out his looser side. He was such a sweetheart. It's quite cute how the fumble around each other at first.
They went into their plan not knowing what would happen but it turned out pleasantly. Well it was clever way to get out of their own situations at the time. It's complicated to with all the feelings that seemed to appear. I feel like it they both needed to grow up. She and Shane were vast opposites and quite unlikely. On paper they don't make sense and not exactly like planned but that's maybe what they both needed. The flighty vs the anchor, reckless and constant, unpredictable vs goal oriented. The banter was fun and yet it had an emotion attached. The thoughtful and honest sometimes blunt moment showed they genuine did care and want the best for the other. I was not sure about them at first but you know I grew to love them together. How they blossomed into their own. It was pretty sweet and natural progression.
Sometimes when you least expect plans change and for the better. While they don't seem like traditional pair they are never boring and come to be good together. Come to think of it she seems to have that theme with the couples in her books. Totally different people and that's where they even each other out. Katy Regnery has a another delightful addition to her Blueberry Lane series. We got a taste of the other sisters in this and they are interesting characters. We are left with a juicy little snippet from the next book which is Alice's and I can't wait!
