Maeve is trying to decipher the mystery of her own personal whirlwind which frightens her during her awake dreams. She has endured years of her fear of this wind and thinks that is how her mom passed away several years ago. Her only way to move forward and face her fear is to confront her family's past in her Irish roots. She makes friends and starts to share her experiences in an effort to solve this mystery.
I really liked how the tapestry of this story started with a single thread of thought and kept adding threads of characters and adventures to keep growing. Ms. McMahon keeps the story moving and fresh with unexpected twists and adventures. I love the descriptions of the people and places Maeve encounters. There is also a supernatural element that impacts Maeve and seamlessly blends history with the present setting while blurring the line between fate and destiny.
I highly recommend this book as an intriguing Irish read. I cannot wait for the next installment in Maeve's life journey.
I quickly became attached to the heroine of the story, Maeve Grace O'Malley. She's a strong character that even through her fears fights to find out what is causing these "awake dreams" or visions that she had been having since she was a child. Her journey leads her on an adventure to Ireland to find out about her roots. Along the way she makes some wonderful new friends and maybe a few enemies. I found myself drawn into the story like I was apart of the adventure. Mrs. McMahon writes a wonderful story with intriguing characters and vivid detail. I can not wait to read her second book and find out what happens next for Maeve and friends.
I was given an arc copy in exchange for voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Bohermore (The Pirate Queen) (Volume 1)
This was a new author for me and I had no idea if I would like the book or not. I was immediately pulled into the story and read straight thru until it was finished. I loved the characters & the plot line. One of my favorite parts of the book were all the historic sites she visited and the history that she learned. It was interesting to see how Maeve, Paul & Rory were all connected by history. There were some things left unfinished so I can't wait to read book 2.
