I don't know what to think about this. I was happy with Ellie and Camden happy ending but I felt like I have no closure with Javier. I wasn't satisfied with the way Ellie left him there and let DEA deal with it. Yes, he lied to her. Yes, he manipulated her. But he did saved her and Camden so many time. Even he had a hidden own agenda to save them but he did give Camden the bulletproof vest. In the end, I think Javier did love Ellie in his own twisted way.
At first I thought he was going to die a noble man, like protect Ellie from some bullet. I don't know if I would prefer that because deep down I really like his character and really want him to redeem himself. The way she left him like that I think he would come to her if he were free. But then again, I was glad he wasn't dead. I think he he might be a better man if Ellie still loved him. He was like a broken person desperately for love but wouldn't give it out first unless he was given. He was a time bomb, driven by what and how people treat him.
Leaving Ellie at the jungle was a bit harsh. (Like I said, Javier loved Ellie in his own twisted way and he loved his power more than Ellie.) I even thought she was dreaming. I waited for her to wake up and then realized that it wasn't a dream when she found Camden. I was right that Gus was Ellie's father. This one pretty much predictable. I have a hard time all the way until Camden made it clear that he loved her. Even what he did for her implied that much but reading through Ellie I was accompany with her insecure and disappointment when he rejected her. Come to think of it, he would give up the moment he saw her with Javier but he was still with her all the way.
Not that I didn't like Camden. It was just there was something about Javier that I can't just denial. A better closure with Javier would earn solid 5 stars but at this point...leaving him there to face a prison made me really disappointed with Ellie. Yeah, yeah, he was a drug lord who manipulated people to get what he want. But I couldn't help thinking that the author could do better than this. I think my problem is that I liked Javier really much. And the author might not think that he would left so much effect on readers so she just got rid of him by put him in the prison.
I usually really like an epilogue where two main characters build their family, have their children. But not this time. The disappointment over what happened to Javier clouded their happy ever after moment. I haven't decided how many stars I'm going give this book until the last moment of this review. I need to sort my thought and think about it.
So, I minus 1.5 star for what happened to Javier.
"The snake against the bear, the man of stealth and lies against the man of soul and strength."
Again, this book is filed with shoot outs, more lies dramatic getaways and perhaps our characters finding the answers they've been searching for all along. I feel like this story wasn't the best out of the 4 since some parts seemed a little rushed or off, but still a book that I'd pay to see on the big screen. I love action and good strong female and we've definitely found it in Ellie Watt! She held this trilogy together like no other. Yes, I loved Javi and Camden and all the supporting characters that were oh so important, but Ellie was just the bomb. Death didn't scare her. She was on a mission and she needed to complete it. 'Nuff said.
"It's every man for himself out there, I hope you know that. You don't win wars by saving each other, You only get killed that way."
Premonition of what will happen? Will anybody end up happy? Will the power struggle of the cartel collapse?
A good ending to a trilogy that I really enjoyed. THese characters became a part of me and I would love to visit them again. Bravo Karina Halle for this amazing series. Action-filled with a strong woman character. Perfecto! I will miss Ellie and Camden, but know we have more Javier and that is exciting!
