Editorial Reviews
Review
"In this book, Danni Washington shares the invisible stories of fearless and radiant women who have shaped technological innovation, advanced modern medicine, and helped us understand and connect to the world around us. Overlooked and underestimated, these women followed their curiosities, built and applied their expertise, and discovered the elements that make us human, the medicines that heal us, the tech that guides us, and the questions that inspire us. Though the roads remain rough and winding, consider the trail blazed: women have been bold explorers and inventors for centuries, now reaching the depths of the ocean and the limits of outer space. What new depths and limits will you discover?" —Dr. Erika Woolsey, marine biologist, National Geographic explorer, CEO & co-founder of The Hydrous
"This is a must-read for any curious kid hoping to learn about the most influential people in history. Washington communicates complex ideas in such a fun, easy way for young students and even provides useful resources for any ambitious child hoping to learn more!" —Emily Calandrelli, author and host of Emily's Wonder Lab

About the author

Danni Washington is fierce, focused, and on a mission. As a world-renowned television host and science communicator, Washington is the first African-American woman to host a nationally broadcast syndicated science television series. She is presently the host of The Genius Generation podcast produced by Seeker and Trax which spotlights young people behind an incredible invention, entrepreneurial pursuit, or discovery using science. Washington also served as a correspondent on CBS's Mission Unstoppable, a weekly program highlighting fascinating female innovators thriving on the cutting edge of science, Xploration Nature Knows Best on FOX, a series predicated on ingenuity in biomimicry meant to expose younger generations to inventions inspired by nature. Additional projects include "Science the $#!* Out Of It," for the popular Facebook Watch vertical, Untamed Science for Pearson Publishing, and Ocean GEMS. Washington continues to educate youth on the importance of ocean conservation, STEM innovation and environmentalism using mediums that acutely connect: science, arts and media. Her simplification of what is at stake with our planet makes her a mainstay in conservation and STEM advocacy.

This is a great book for all ages. It's a quick read that encourages you to explore more. It does a great job at defining and explaining scientific terms. I appreciate the diversity represented, and hope this becomes a series.
Young girls will be left inspired. And anyone who reads this will leave grateful of all the scientific advancements these women made.
I especially love the resources that Danni offers at the end of the book as direct opportunities for readers to act on what they've learned, whether they simply want more information, or want to start building skills to be a scientist! We need more books like this--there is so much lost when the lives and contributions of women, especially women of color, are erased from the story. I am so grateful! I'm giving it to my niece!
