Musicians can be particular about certain aspects of their tools. Strings, necks, instrument bodies, woods, etc.

I purchased the BoloPick synthetic felt picks because they were advertised as being “softer and smaller than
typical felt picks”. I wanted a felt pick with more flex and thought this product could be the one. I was right on
picking the Bolos, but first some rudimentary dimensions.

Real-felt pick is that it produces a softer sound than a plastic or nylon pick but you still get the quick attack of
a hard pick. So that’s good, right? Yeah, depends on what your style of playing.
The Others being as big as they are and so stiff there is little play when strumming the uke. The hard stiff felt
picks are great for single string picking, or leads, but it feels like there is a piece of metal between my fingers
when I play. They just don’t feel right in my hand. If they were smaller there might be a compromise there for
some lead playing.
The Bolo synthetic felt picks are the same exact thickness as my Other Stiff Real-felt picks. Difference is the
Bolos give nicely and feel good between my fingers when I strum. The grip is just as good as Other uke felt
picks but I still get the soft sound on those uke strings. The Bolo pick feels less cumbersome and much more
comfortable than the Other Real-felt pick.
So if you are used to having a little give, or bend, in your picks the Bolo picks are the ones for you. I would say
they remind me of a medium gauge nylon pick, about 70mm thick. Enough give to allow a faster easier strum
and stiff enough to allow some picking and grinning.
When Bolo says they are 'synthetic' I don’t know exactly what that means. Just that they are not real felt, as far
as I can go with the hypothesis. Real felt is a combo of fabrics compressed together. The Other felt picks I own
are made of cotton and wool and are stiff as a board. So I am okay going non-organic with the ‘synthetic felt’
pick because they are what works well for me.
5 Stars for my find of the month due to its nice response, great feel between the fingers and a softer uke sound.
The Others are just not my style but if you want a slightly louder sound and be able to pick the strings then go
for the stiff hard unyielding felt pick. It’s all personal. Just have fun doing it.

These picks are great!! I just picked up playing the uke and strumming is a big struggle with my arthritis. I also play the guitar but this has never been a problem because I had a pick, but guitar picks make the ukulele sound harsh. These picks don't take away the gentle and pleasant sound of the uke, and they actually add to the clarity of the strumming patterns!! Arthritis or not these are a definite essential for a new player to have!!

Okay, I've read some reviews and you either love these or hate them. I happen to love them. Here's the deal, they are VERY STIFF, and hard when they are new, so when you strum they have a very loud sound to your instrument. BUT... after you break them in by using them, they give you a beautiful mellow sound. I've got one broken in beautifully, and an breaking in another one so I'll have two when I go play with my friends and family. I highly recommend these but be patient... Good sounds come to those who are willing to break them in! Happy Strumming.

I keep my fingernails quite short, so when I first picked up the ukulele, I wanted to try some uke picks to see if that would help with tone. Using these felt picks helps me to project better than with my bare fingers. However, I feel that the picks are just too thick. They tend to get caught on strings, and to my ear they dig in TOO much, and can make the uke sound really forceful and unnatural. The worst part is that it is extremely difficult to hold on to these, so I feel like I have no control over my sound when the pick is sliding all over the place. I think the ideal uke pick would be a tad thinner, or at least less stiff, and would have some sort of grip on one end to be able to get a hold of it.

There isn't a quality issue here, but one of simply not liking the product. It's one of taste. But, if you're looking for a full, round, mellow tone, these aren't what you want. They're too hard. They produce a loud percussive noise - no worse than any other thick pick, but no better, as I'd been hoping, and a nylon pick gives you more of a mellow sound, with less treble. I just don't see the point to these. Any plastic pick will serve you just as well, and any nylon pick better, if you're after what I was.

Although most ukulele tutorials recommend finger strumming, I was curious to learn about the difference between that and using a pick, so I picked these up for my soprano uke. Glad I did! The felt is stiff enough for solid strumming without being too harsh, and the picks create a sound that's distinctly different from finger strumming. The felt is also easy to grip, and as far as picks go, these are awfully cute. I'll probably go back and forth between these picks and finger strumming depending on the sort of sound I'm going for. Definitely can't hurt to have a pack of these stashed in your uke case!

When I first got my ukulele, before I had developed the necessary finger calluses from repeated practice, I really thought I would want picks for my instrument. I bought these as felt is ideal for plastic uke strings! They definitely do work, and the fact that they produce a different timbre of sound than finger-strumming can be useful for some songs, but honestly I find that I rarely ever use the picks now. They are well constructed and the colours are nice.
