After requesting replacement parts for the broken plastic stopper lever from Bonivita, I was sent a number replacement parts so I could effect a repair. The broken part had been redesigned to be more substantial (see photo). I am happy to see Bonivita responding to a design problem with a significant improvement, and making free replacement parts available to those like myself who love the product but who may be technically "out of warranty".
Well, I managed about two years of daily use before the little plastic control lever broke. I see from many of the other reviews that I am not alone in my disappointment with what is clearly a design defect. Plastics becomes more brittle over time and this little part, had it been made of metal, would have easily lasted a lifetime.
For want of a durable lever this otherwise excellent coffee brewer will prematurely join tons of other poorly designed consumer items in our unconscionable human waste stream. The profit motive contributes to making us poor stewards of planet, all for the lack of an extra few cents per unit of manufacturing cost.

Two months and it broke. I should have realized, having read the negative reviews, that the design is flawed and the OPEN/CLOSE lever will break eventually (sooner rather than later). I didn’t abuse it. I just used it normally. I rinsed it after each use and washed it on the top shelf in the dishwasher once a week. I bought this naïvely thinking the manufacturer surely would have corrected this design flaw as soon as they knew it was a problem. Instead, you have to ask them for a replacement part and fix it yourself. The concept for this product is great. I love the ceramic bowl. I hate the cheap plastic lever.
