Top customer reviews
1. Wash and wax the vehicle before applying (a wax coat makes it very easy to wipe off any excess Bondo Black)
2.Use the Applicator for wide long areas. This words great for that. The more you use the and apply Bondo Black the better the applicator works as it soaks it up and provides a smooth wipe.
3.Use Nitrile gloves and in hard to reach areas put the bondo black on your fingers and work it into the small areas (I due this around the door handles and edges of my Wrangler.
4.Work yourself around the car and THEN go back with a soft warm water cloth and wipe off any excess. If you try to wipe off right away you will wipe off the Bondo Black. Wait a minute or two then wipe. If you followed step 1 I have never had any issues or problems.
5.Allow to dry a day or two and then apply second coat. This has worked for me because it seems to have cured or worked itself into the plastic. 6.Enjoy
Also, I no longer have to use a second coat because now that I have done it stays fairly black for 6 months better and longer if you apply it each year. Well worth it! See pictures the second picture show my treated area and the untreated area.
Note that it took 3 treatments to get it this black, and I will apply a third before waxing tomorrow. I will return and update only if the bumpers newfound swarthiness abates. Otherwise, assume the 5 rating stands.
Tools needed: One roll of painters tape. Two 99 cent home depot foam brushes one two inch width for bumpers one half inch for small detail trim. Rag for mistakes. Armor All or Meguires Protectant to put on after done and seal it.
It takes some time but that is because you are really painting/dyeing more than an Armor All type product. Wash the car throughly hitting the parts to be done twice. Then the tedious part. You are going to paint you have to tape off everything you don't want painted around the area. Just do a strip with painters tape around the bumpers and trim. Alas a lot of corners and round edges involved so it takes some time. But this is 90% of the work. Don't skimp and think you can paint straight it's not worth the annoyance of trying to get the product off paint later.
The bottle seems tiny when you get it but i did both bumpers and all trim (sans truck bed) and have half a bottle left it goes a long way. After taping - in the shade apply a drop to the foam brush and spread on. Keep going till covered. It really goes fast. I did two coats on each area and had to wait as it was taking less than 10 minutes to get back to a previous area.
Once done wait a while then apply Meguires, Armor All, or your favorite protectant. You will have a pure black shiny new surface at the end. For less than 15 bucks and a few hours it's well worth it. I'll have to see how long it lasts but right now it looks brand new.
