About the authors
Jason P. Crawford was born in Louisiana in 1981. His writing career began in 2012, when he sat down for some “writing time” with his wife and sister-in-law. He has always been fascinated by the magic in the real world, leading him to focus most of his efforts on urban fantasy and science fiction.
In addition to publishing his own work, he has spent time as a freelance writer, preparing articles and ghost-writing for others. In addition to Chains of Prophecy, Jason has completed The Drifter, a story about gods walking in the world of men, and Cycles of Destruction: Earth, a science fiction novel which reveals the true history of the human race and the forces that shaped it. His life as a husband, father, and teacher (as well as hardcore gamer) have opened up and nurtured a wealth of imagination and given Jason a tendency to flights of fancy, and those flights give rise to his work.

I really, really enjoyed this installment of the Sam Buckland series! It was really nice to come back and see how Sam was doing with his powers and saving people and all that. I was also curious at the end of the last book to see how Sam would use his power in the real world and how to subtly help the people that he could help. I loved that he became a therapist/psychiatrist. I don't know... it just fit for me.
One thing I'm dying to talk about is the ending. Like WHAT THE HECK?? It was a really unexpected solution but totally makes sense when you think about it. I won't say too much but I will say that it will blow your mind. I also really liked the introduction of the different pantheons and dieties. I really liked how the author addressed that yes, there are different belief systems out there and maybe more than one actually do coexist. It reminded me kind of The Butterfly Crest by Eva Vanrell (my review for that book will be up shortly) except way less violent. They have an agreement and for the most part try to stick to it. And I did say for the most part.
Hmm.... what else did I want to talk about... You see the problem with this is that I read the book for the first time a little while ago and I didn't write down my thoughts right away (which was a totally stupid move by the way) so now I'm rereading it but you know a book isn't the same once you've read it once. It's my solid opinion that the book is never the same once read once.
I also wanted to talk about Sam's adopted daughter. I actually loved how she was kind of bratty at first and acting like a child. It was actually so true no matter how much we wish it wasn't. She got all defensive when new and crazy things started happening and that is remarkably realistic. I'd go crazy too! So in that sense, the book was very relatable.
The Final Verdict:
A very nicely written sequel to an excellent opener. This is such a great extension to the previous book's plot line before branching off in another, more complicated direction. I absolutely loved the ending and especially Sarah. Satan learning to be human was amusing to watch! The sarcasm in this book was beautiful! That's my kind of humor!

Quotes:
"'There was someone else in that woman, possessing her.' He leaned in. 'I...I don't think it was a demon. It doesn't look like any demon I've seen.'
'And, of course, you've seen them all.' Vassago coughed, then wiped its hand on its sleeve. 'So you're an expert.'"
This was a fun read with a lot twists and surprises. Crawford again creates a world where gods battle for dominance, and you never know who will come out on top. What’s more intriguing is that you don’t know who you want to be there. All the players seem to have good reason for their actions, making the line between good and evil blur.
Samuel Buckland, the heir of the wonderful power of the Keys of Solomon, is once again called to action.
Sam and his adopted teenage daughter, Sara, decide to take a well-deserved break from the stress of daily life to vacation in Jerusalem. Their plans crumble, however, when a mysterious force attacks the angels and throws them down from heaven. It's up to Sam, with the help of Sara and an old, divine friend, to unravel the mystery of the sinister force and stop the dark plan from reaching fruition.
Review:
Once again, Mr. Crawford delivers. This second installment of the Samuel Buckland Chronicles is full of suspense and mystery. I found myself caught up in the characters once again, and was just as involved in trying to figure out a solution as they were. Very well-written, even more so than the first installment, I could not put this book down for more than five minutes at a time until it was finished. Mr. Crawford's talent is definitely in creating and developing rich worlds and complex characters. I hope to see this series as movies someday, as they are definitely worth the screentime, and I eagerly await the next book. I can't wait to see how this plot continues to grow, and how the characters will change and evolve.

Heaven is closed - angels have fallen, and Satan is trapped in a human form in which he/she gets a taste of her own medicine; facing temptation. Sam, Satan and Sarah embark on an adventure to find out what has happened in Heaven and with the help of Egyptian deities we learn about The Compact. I shan't say any more about the story to avoid spoilers, but the ending definitely leaves you wanting more!
I await the next Chronicle with bated breath.
