Book One of the Alexa's Travels series is a dark fantasy quest into the apocalypse, where Bone Dust is the currency and nightmares stalk man's roads in search of prey.

From the Author

The Alexa's Travels series came to me while trying to envision what the United States would be like years after a nuclear war. I saw a small group of fighters, hardened men able to handle anything that was in their path. An ocean beckoned to them from the distance, but first, they had to get through the Mountains. These survivors were on a quest to find something no one had seen in a decade... Safety.

From there, the scene changed to show me a close-up of these fighters and I was surprised to see them led by a woman. Judging by her looks and the way she was teaching, controlling, herding her men, I recognized her as kin to Adrian, the hero of my Life After War series. Then, I understood what these fighters were searching for... Those who'd come before them... Safe Haven.

If you are new to the Alexa's Travels series, "Bone Dust & Beginnings" is the book you want to start with. The author apologizes/explains at the end of this book that "The Mountaineer's (Alexa's Travel's) was published out of order, no worries if you've already read it, it's just that "Bone Dust & Beginnings" is where Alexa's quest actually began and where/how she chooses her group of 6 men known as her fighters and/or "my pets" as she also affectionately calls them. I really enjoy this series and it's also nice that it has a connection to the "Life After War" series(another favorite of mine!). Alexa and her fighters are heading for Safe Haven, not only to find a safe place but also so Alexa can search for her missing family. A nuclear war in 2012 had devastated the world, in "Bone Dust & Beginnings" Alexa is traveling with 4 "fighters" and as she continues on her quest she will add in others. Along the way they run into very interesting characters, including a troll named Jendon, there are battles, lessons, and also some magic! "Bone Dust & Beginnings" immediately draws you in and I found it hard to put down. I can't wait for the next book in the series to see what adventures are in store for Alexa and her "pets"!

When I stumbled upon Angela White's book,at first I wasn't quite sure it was for me...the cover and description makes it clear there is some darkness to this written work, but captivating none of the less! I took a peek, read a little, read a little more and there you have it... I was hooked!
A wonderfully well written story that gives new perspective of life, war and survival...with a fantastic magical fantasy twist! (was that a tongue twister?) Put a gal in charge, who's one tuff cookie, well...even better! (Has nothing to do with my main characters being girls... really) Alexa is one tough, clever chic that knows her stuff and knows how to lead. The adventure she takes you on, building her force, fighting her battles and learning some lessons,no wonder men flock to and follow her!

I love magic, I love fantasy and I absolutely loved Angela White's (A. White) Bone Dust & Beginnings!
For $.99 cents your a fool to pass this one by...

I had just finished the Life After War books and was desperately looking for more of those, when I tripped over Alexa's Travels. I was pleased to find that they are connected. Of course, like the other books, I devoured these two and they were finished all too quickly. Now I'm pining away for new installments to BOTH of these series. Oh, the humanity! And so I wait... Great job again Angela! =)

If you like the Life After War series, you will most likely like this. I am not going to rewrite the plot summary and provide a pile of spoliers (sure you can find that in other reviews), but will just say that I found this to be just as entertaining as I did the life after war stories, and an ok time filler while I wait for the next of those to come out.

It was ok. You definitely have to read the Life After War series first to even have a clue as to what is going on. I tried to read it first, about a year ago, and gave up. After reading Life After War, I saw this was on the author's list...and now the characters made a lot more sense. It's really LAW book 9, if truth be told.

That being said, there were glaring inconsistencies - probably because Ms. White finished only four books into LAW before starting this one.Two characters that are dispatched in LAW are suddenly alive again - and very bitter - so that didn't make any sense at all seeing that this takes place a few years after book 8 of LAW. Also the powers of the Descendants is depicted differently.

Will I read the rest of this trilogy? Probably, as it is relatively inexpensive. Is it a priority? Not so much.

This is really book one in the series, the other with this art is, as the author says, like a sample to see if you like the type of book. I liked the men and Alexa was okay. As the author says, she loves wild west books, and wrote the story with the gunslinger/Magnificent Seven type of invincible gang. They come upon small towns similar to this vein too. I greatly disliked the magic and fantasy creatures in the book such as trolls, vampires, etc. You don't really even need the post apocalyptic world with all that mess. I am not going to buy or read the sequel, Killing Field of Nebraska, which is actually written about past, not current experiences of the group.

Had I not just read five books of the After the War, I might not be as critical of this story as I am. When did Alexa add the convict in Boulder? That scene is missing from the book, and I'm sure the story jumped several adventures. While there were fewer grammar and concept problems than the last of the After the War books, this production lacks some of the intensity of the original series.
