About the Author

In her 40-something years of life, Shelly has been a world traveler, waitress, writer, magazine editor, non-profit founder, entrepreneur and artist. By sheer luck and twists of fate, these paths have led to and helped define her latest, greatest and most challenging role as wife and homemaker; mother and teacher to Pixel, Robert and Beckett; and hostess extraordinaire. This book was written after Shelly and her family had moved from Southern California to a small coastal community in Eastern Australia. At the time of publication, Shelly and her family are making plans to continue their travels to the Central American country of Costa Rica. Follow their adventures on Shelly's blog at www.kitchenranch.com.

Format: Paperback
This is a simple, lovingly written book of questions that allow parents, and couples that want to be parents, to think about what kinds of choices they want to make together regarding tough and easier situations and futures: team sports, home decor, what 'play' means, grandma supplies lots of sugar and so much more. But this book also supplies the architecture for you and your partner to talk about the things you love about each other, what challenges you each about the other and what characteristics, qualities or ideals you do and don't want to pass on. This book is terrific for couples that know they want to be parents, new parents, and even those who are thinking about what parenthood might mean for them.

This book highlights the value of talking to each other with excellent conversation starters. Each question provides an opportunity for increasing healthy communication in order to present a unified structure within the home.

Life is a journey and we will always seek answers. Discussing the questions is a great start and a perfect method for having parents be on the same page as they raise children. Single parents can benefit as well, by considering each question in advance and solidifying what their response will be. I appreciate the way the questions are grouped too - it's a well planned, concise, beneficial read.

As a mother to a 5 year old, I have found this book beneficial by presenting topics we still have not addressed and need to talk about. For example, now that my child is becoming more interested in the computer, what sort of rules and boundaries will I have regarding her computer usage? What will I decide to do when my daughter wants to earn money--should I pay her for doing chores around the house? Lots to talk about and lots to decide, and after we discuss these things, we'll be a stronger family for having done so.

"Why didn't anyone tell me about this!?"

This incredibly valuable book makes this question nearly obsolete for new parents.

When you have children, you will be confused and you will ask yourself this question on a daily basis. Most people turn to parenting books for the answer, but soon learn that most books only answer some of the questions while creating many more.

No two people will have identical parenting styles (no matter how well educated they are or how good a writer). Asking questions of people who have different life experiences from you, while sometimes valuable, will never give you the final answer about what is right for you.

The best answers will come from yourself!

This book gives you the opportunity to begin developing your (ever evolving) answers to the most critical questions now.

The author offers you a gift in the form of insightful and wonderfully useful questions that you are not likely to hear from anyone else.

I have never seen a book like this before, and wish I'd seen it before I became a Mom of two...but it's no less useful now as I consider who I am, as a parent, and what I want to be.

Buy this book for yourself, or as a gift for someone else.

You won't be sorry you did!
