Perfect for the service professional just starting a business, as well as anyone who needs to go back and fix their business structure to get results.
Working through the system (and it really is a system more than a book) as presented will help you create a very strong business, starting with determining who you are best suited to work with, creating a strong brand, understanding how to effectively talk about what you do, establishing credibility, how to price your services, and how to sell your services. Then, and only then, after you have something of substance to market, does Michael give you his marketing strategies. (And yes, by reading this book you'll feel like you are on a first name basis with him too!)
Speaking of marketing strategies, one of my favorite things about BYS is that the marketing isn't at all smarmy. It is a structured, systematic approach to creating and maintaining authentic relationships - perfect for everyone, and it feels really good for us sensitive types who usually have trouble with marketing and sales.
As an energy healer, the 2nd edition of Book Yourself Solid made a huge difference in my life. This illustrated edition is SO much BETTER!
It actually says MORE in fewer words because the illustrations make learning the concepts that much easier. I'm a pretty visual person and this new edition is SO easy to follow!
This is not a book to read and set aside. This is a book to use and abuse - write in it, dog ear it, make it yours.
Do this and you'll being singing praises for Michael Port like the rest of us. Come join the choir, there's plenty of room for more voices!

I am not sure that this is the fastest solution because many of the activities take time. Possibly it is fast compared to all the wasted time directed to past marketing and selling activities.
Additionally, I have a problem with the reference to hating marketing and selling. If you truly dislike to market and sell, then you are probably in the wrong role. What I would have preferred Port stating is something about being ineffective with your current sales activities.
He encourages the writing of e-books to free tips to establish yourself as an expert. Being able to book yourself solid is due to being able to create multiple opportunities for people to see and hear you.
This book is not a quick read if you truly wish to book yourself solid. However if you are willing to invest the time, take specific actions, you may be able to increase sales as well as customers to be The Red Jacket in a sea of gray suits
I'm working on becoming booked solid helping contractors get control over their online leads. It is like Michael Port read all the best business books, implemented it into his service business and then distilled all the best for you and I to read. I can't say enough about the direction this is leading me in.

The points made are incredibly well put, and come across as a 'if you don't do it, you won't get it' kind of way which I like. I would say it is the go-to book if you have found yourself in a bit of a rut and need some clear guidance on how to push through it.
Be prepared to get out of your comfort zone though, there are some aspects of this process that require it. Personally, I am quite introverted, and I found it difficult to complete some of the sections - which is not faulting the book at all, but it meant that I actually had a change of heart in my career because of it, and helped me decide that I should follow my actual passion instead! So even though I didn't go on to book myself solid, it changed my goals and also my life, albeit not in the way it was designed to!

I'm pleased I bought it and would recommend it to others looking for a fresh approach to marketing yourself or your business.
