My only issue with this book is that as I was starting my business I was in a big hurry to bowl people over with my awesomeness and take orders for my highest revenue services. This book was, and is, a bit of a wake up slap upside the head that my bull in a china shop approach isn't the best approach for me or my customers. There have been times when I felt like, and still do, that I just need to throw this book away and go knock on doors, however, there's little question the exercises I'm going through are worthwhile. As additional evidence, every fellow 'consultant' I talk to about some of the things I'm reading here, and doing, is blown away by the volume of 'great ideas' I have. Yes, Michael, I attribute them all to you.
I first found out about BYS a year ago, as I had been looking for a system that would help my wife to build her healing practice, BYS was the first complete system that my wife and I could embrace as a way to market her services with integrity and enthusiasm, so much so that we both soon enrolled in Michael's training program (how's that for an upsell testimonial?)
I have since spoken with many people who have also bought Michael's first and second edition of his BYS book, but for whatever reason and not been able to take advantage of the excellent information that he provides, with this new edition, hopefully for many, that will change. Creating a visual illustrated version of his already best-selling book, Michael helps those who are less inclined to learn from text, creating visual mnemonics that help to anchor the concepts that the book has to offer.
In our rapidly moving world, many of us do not have the luxury to sit down with a book to gather out from it what is available, this visual version allows such a person to quickly get pictorial snapshots to quickly get through the material.
I strongly recommend this version, even if, or maybe especially, if you have the other editions and have just not been able to take advantage of the material.
Perfect for the service professional just starting a business, as well as anyone who needs to go back and fix their business structure to get results.
Working through the system (and it really is a system more than a book) as presented will help you create a very strong business, starting with determining who you are best suited to work with, creating a strong brand, understanding how to effectively talk about what you do, establishing credibility, how to price your services, and how to sell your services. Then, and only then, after you have something of substance to market, does Michael give you his marketing strategies. (And yes, by reading this book you'll feel like you are on a first name basis with him too!)
Speaking of marketing strategies, one of my favorite things about BYS is that the marketing isn't at all smarmy. It is a structured, systematic approach to creating and maintaining authentic relationships - perfect for everyone, and it feels really good for us sensitive types who usually have trouble with marketing and sales.
As an energy healer, the 2nd edition of Book Yourself Solid made a huge difference in my life. This illustrated edition is SO much BETTER!
It actually says MORE in fewer words because the illustrations make learning the concepts that much easier. I'm a pretty visual person and this new edition is SO easy to follow!
This is not a book to read and set aside. This is a book to use and abuse - write in it, dog ear it, make it yours.
Do this and you'll being singing praises for Michael Port like the rest of us. Come join the choir, there's plenty of room for more voices!
