In "Monsters Come Out to Play," the first story in author Samantha Foster's "My Monsters" series, kids learned that monsters had feelings too, and that monsters are only as scary as you let them be. The story in "Teaching Monsters" reinforces that positive image of the often maligned creatures of the night and shows that monsters are there because they care about kids and want them to do well in life.

It's an enjoyable rhyming story with colorful illustrations that your kids may pick as one of their favorite bedtime stories, especially for those nights when they start thinking about scary things that may be hiding in their closet or under the bed.

Monsters, Monsters, they are everywhere. But these monsters are teachers and now when you see a monster, don't be afraid. Why? Because Mr. Monster has a good lesson to share. This is a very nicely illustrated children's book that rhymes quite well. I think it's an excellent lesson for children to not fear monsters and they just might wonder what the lesson could be when confronted with a monster. Also, perhaps the child will become creative and perhaps take the opportunity to teach the monster a thing or two. This book is a very interactive book for children, and it sets their imagination in the opposite direction of fear. Very good book.

Samantha Foster's second delightful monster book with fun drawings is an excellent way to stop kids from fearing monsters and it teaches them valuable lessons about how to behave. The book shows that monsters really aren't scary at all. They are not mean. They do not want to harm children. They are friendly. They come to help kids. The book tells us about five different monsters, including the school and vegetable monsters, and what each of the five wants kids to learn.

Samantha Foster has the most fun ways of teaching children values and ideas. She takes a potentially challenging idea (monsters in this case) and turns that around into something not to fear but from which to learn.

She starts with the Hearing Monster who has many ears - the point being that children should listen to all their peers AND their parents. There is the School Monster who simply wants children to do everything the teacher asks so that homework will become easy. There is a Vegetable Monster who encourages replacing vegetables for candy and sodas, eating as much vegetables as you please to make the body strong. The Rules Monster encourages children to do what is right. And finally there is the Friend Monster who `wants you to be friends with everyone so no one will feel blue.'

The point Foster is making with this beautifully illustrated well rhymed book is that things children may think are monsters are in truth helpers `to teach you to do what is right.' This is a fun book that children will love and learn to overcome fears and discover the life enhancements that are outlined so well. Grady Harp, May 13

Teaching Monsters is another cute book to help children learn from monsters that come in the night by Samantha Foster. Giving children a rhyming book that helps them face monsters as friends, which helps them learn to control their fears and in this case it teaches them some very positive life lessons too. The illustrations are colorful and fun to help the children see representations of things that they might fear. My preschoolers ask me to read it to them often, which means it is one of the books that they enjoy the most as they learn through repetition. I have used it for only a couple of weeks in my classroom and some of the children know what monsters comes next and what each one helps them learn. As a preschool educator, I highly recommend it to parents of children from ages three and up.

The author supplied me with a copy of this manuscript with no request for a review. The views expressed in this review are my honest opinion and not influenced by her gift.

Author Samantha Foster has created another of her books for children, one that uses monsters in rhymng verse as a teaching tool. The artwork is simple and cute and will undoubtedly appeal to small children.

The teaching here is guidance for small ones that can help steer them on a right path for eating, making friends, studying in school. All the things parents wish for their little ones.

Recommended highly.
