Romance is only for books, (the kind she’d rather not read) not for real-life after marriage, opines Tessa Booker. Determined to prove her point, Tessa is convinced to write a book. Strange things happen as Tessa secretly sets out on this journey. Her husband hardly recognizes the changes in her, a desperate woman needs help, and life takes an unforeseen loop.
Chautona Havig has penned a thought-provoking novel, Bookers on the Rocks, as part of the Independence Islands series. Entertaining, suspenseful, and reflective, this novel can set standards for both those eventually contemplating marriage and those already in a marital union.
Mallory Barrows is a faithful friend who uses her resources (her business, The Book Barrow,) to help her friends find themselves.

I love how Chautona weaves such great lessons into intriguing stories. My dream has been for years to write a series of love stories of married couples. But the problem is I'm not a writer. I'm glad that Chautona writes these great stories. Her stories usually connect with my heart in unique ways and convict me.

Chautona’s books helped me get through quarantine! Bookers On the Rocks is one of her best yet! I love how she writes books that inspire the building of relationships through humor, friendship, faith and connection.
This book actually challenges readers to examine thoughtful and purposeful romance and keeping relationships fresh and connected even after many years of marriage.
This book is part of a series but can be read on its own as well.
I fully recommend this book. I did receive an advance read copy of the book, but also chose to purchase the kindle edition so I can keep it handy for re-reading along with the rest of the series!

The story had me rooting for the Bookers' marriage and how they revived it. As usual, Chautona gently gave me some things to think about in my own life. Is my marriage all I want/need, and if not, how am I going to improve it? So refreshing and unusual to read a realistic romance about a married couple.

"If faith without works is dead, then perhaps love without action is, too."
Tessa (Bailey) and Ross Booker, married 20+ years, are a couple on Elnora Island. Their lives are routine, and in some ways separated: she's at home, he's at work. They are very successful. Their sons are out the door, their life is stable and very....scheduled. They love each other. However.....
Is Tessa happy? Ross seems to be.An unsettled Tessa is an unhappy Tessa. Are they affirming each other? How about their time together? They are still physical....almost like "clockwork", but do they really have quality time? Ross is stymied and lost in himself so that when he thinks he'll give her a gift, it truly falls flat.
Until a freak situation upends everyone's life. Will the Bookers survive? And, better yet, will Ross and Tessa survive?
This book was startling in its realism. As a retired pastor, issues often come out sideways when they aren't given places to be worked out, until they are forced out. Chautona Havig's take on issues is startling at times and often right on target. Made me appreciate my spouse even more after I read it and this will be a definite re-read in the future. Highly Recommended. 5/5

This story intrigued me in many ways. I was so pleased the author chose to portray the two main characters in this story as an older couple. A couple who were in the middle years of being married, almost empty-nesters. It covered the sensitive subject of people who feel unloved, unvalued, and not cherished. This author did it all in a very gentle and interesting way. She brings into the story the five languages of love, and how it’s important to know what the other person’s language is to really speak to their heart.
It was thought-provoking, and in some ways convicting.
It made me look at my own marriage and question if I was doing all that I needed to do, to let my husband know he is seen and truly loved.
Another fun part of this book is that it’s set on the same island as some of this author’s other books and so we get to visit with past characters we’ve read before.
Chautona Havig is a talented author and when I hear there is a new book out, I’ll make sure I read it because I know I’ll be blessed in the end. At first, I wasn’t sure about this book because it really dug deep into my heart, but in the end, it was a sweet tale of restoration and love!

I really don't like to read romance books about married couples. Mostly, I think, because that means that the couple has problems in their marriage and I don't like reading about that. "Bookers on the Rocks" was not really like that. They didn't have marriage problems like you would see in other types of books. In a way, they "made" problems by wondering if there was problems. It was nice to see Tessa and Ross rediscover the love they have for each other. My husband has never been much for gift giving, but especially now as we near being married for 25 years. This book brings to mind some things I could do to make sure he knows how much I love and appreciate him.
