Once upon a time, I argued with my book keeper about how I conduct myself in between her visits. This book isn't just for bookkeepers. It's for business owners who need a basic knowledge of bookkeeping that is written in language ANYONE can understand! If you pay your bookkeeper by the hour, save yourself a ton of money and buy this book!

This book really assumes you know nothing about bookkeeping or accounting, which in my case was true. I found it helpful in grasping the basic concepts (which are so counterintuitive for me!) so that I can understand what I'm doing in Quickbooks. A necessary evil.

From the basics to advanced details, this book covers it all. This is like a college degree packaged cover-to-cover. The book provides:

-- Worksheets.
-- Sample forms.
-- Ways to detect and solve issues.
-- Instruction on how to deal with foreign currency.
-- Ways to monitor cash flow.

And so much more information that this book should have a permanent spot on your desk for easy reference. If you own a new business, established business, or work as a bookkeeper, this guide is a must have.

As others have said, it's a simplistic in some areas, makes leaps in others. It's a pretty good overview of accounting basics. I wouldn't say any better or worse than the "For Dummies" book. I think the Dummies book gives a little more detail and examples.

This book provides a simple explanation of double entry accounting for small business. For a beginning bookeeper or a non-financial manager, it does a good job.

The author writes this book well and really goes into the detail. I have a bookkeeping background but wanted a refresher since it's been years that I've been a bookkeeper. This book was great at explaining in detail the basics. A good reference book to keep on the shelf.

really basic, read Financial Statements or google "bookkeeping" and get some practice that way. Was hoping for a list of complex journal entries. Instead got the very rudimentary essentials of accounting
