Twin sisters Bertie and Wanda run a bookstore, which provides residents of their small town with a space to come and get coffee early in the morning and browse books by lamp light instead of florescent light. Bertie has recently trialed a "read-n-return" section of the store to allow patrons to check out books, much like a library. When opening the store one morning, Bertie realizes that the "read-n-return" section has been suffering loses at the hands of a book thief, despite all that person needing to do is let the sisters know at the register that they're checking a book out. The sisters observe, hoping to rule out all the good, nice people living in their town, and solve the mystery of who the thief is.
An incredibly quick and rather cute story that rapidly sets its scene, the mystery afoot, and provides a resolution in a matter of a few pages. The atmosphere of the book store is decently established in the brief amount of time spent there, and, though Bertie and Wanda seem to be relatively common seventy-ish year old ladies, they have some personality to them in how they interact with one another and their thoughts on some of their customers. It would be interesting to see these ladies in a more developed, longer story that contains a more complex mystery or explored an element of the world from their more experienced perspective.
This is a sweet little story that will make you feel good. Take a few minutes to read the story and leave a review for other readers and the author. Go on now - enjoy!
The two have a bit of a mystery on their hands and readers get to follow along as they solve it.
Read it all in one sitting and thought it was quite cute. Will be checking out the rest of the series, which seem to be full length novels.
Wanda and Bertie run a combination thrift/bookstore and have outfitted one area as a read and return book area, offering customers who can't afford books to be able to borrow. There is one problem though. The books are disappearing, but no one is checking them out.
You can't help but to laugh when you discover who is taking the books and why. Also you fall for the characters. Great job with such a short story!!
