Sam knows Cheyenne is it for him, but he also knows if he states his intent she is going to balk. Giving Cheyenne time to understand is rushed though when Cheyenne is in danger.
I had been curious about Sam and Cheyenne's story and it as quite different than the synopsis. I liked this one a lot, has the introduction to all the characters you grow to love and you find out about Sam's backstory with his father. Wacky females, caveman men, and a few extra surprises along the way. Excellent start to the series.
This is the story that starts the series--Cheyenne and Sam's story. They meet at a bar where she is celebrating her birthday alone and bemoaning the fact she is still a virgin. Well, girl, let me tell you, that's about to change fast! Sam is talk, dark, and panty-melting. I want a Sam. The craziness that is their normal is something that I can definitely relate to. The fact that their lives have intertwined without them knowing it (Sam was the leader of Cheyenne's brother's military unit) brings a little twist to the story and we get to see how a big brother acts when sis is dating his old commander. There will be sad moments in the book, and when they hit, I admit I bawled like a baby. Definitely worth the read! I have owned this for a while and it's one of my go-tos to re-read when I'm waiting on new material from my favorite authors!
Overall it wasn't awful, it kept my interest, but I skimmed a lot of the inner monologue stuff to find out what was going to happen.
I am pretty disappointed in the character development and the time line/flashbacks are hard to follow at times but the plot moves quickly and is entertaining. I feel like I am left with a lot of unanswered questions especially regarding Free, Sam, and the villain. The book feels like its the first book of the authors but I dont think i would be as disappointed in this book if I read if I read it before the Dixie Wardens books. So i will read the second book in the series and hopefully my questions will be answered.
