No chemically smell
The Material is nice and thick.
It seems durable and is not flimsy.
You can see that even without anything in it, it holds it's shape very well.
The corners and flap are reinforced to help keep it's form.
The top handle is thick and looped around a metal reinforced opening.
The shoulder strap is set and doesn't twist and made of durable nylon and looks just like a seatbelt.
One side stitched into the bag, while the other end is through a strong plastic loop. The buckle is also the same plastic.
Not sure why, but the latch and the handle are looped through or made of metal, but the shoulder strap isn't.
There is one quick access external pocket with a pouch designed for a phone.
The external pocket doesn't have any zipper or seal
The pouch fits my iphone 4 with a rubbery case, but takes some finesse to wiggle it in.
iphone 4s with a plastic case and iphone 5 slides straight in but will slide and fall out if turned upside down
The zippers are metal, but the teeth are plastic
The flap buckle slides through a nylon loop anchored at the bottom of the bag. The nylon loops go through a metal reinforced opening.
Once closed, it's secure.
Operating usually requires two hands.
This makes it difficult if you need to quickly access contents while holding something else (i.e. holding coffee or your phone)
Directly inside is a zippered side pocket.
There are no dividers or separate pouches, but there is an option to attach a keychain.
On the inner side of the flap, there is a Terralinq serial number you can register your booq bag.
So, if anyone with a strong moral compass or a person that believes in Karma finds your lost bag, they can go online and report a Lost Bag Found. Hopefully, you get it back with everything intact.
The zippered opening doesn't open that much, but it opens directly over the macbook pouch.
New MacBook Pro 15" Retina fits
Older Unibody MacBook Pro 15" fits
Leaves about 2.5 inches bare
The walls surrounding the macbook have some padding
The bottom is also padded
The inside lining is single stitched with more pouches.
There are 3 pen pouches, a large pouch, and 2 smaller pouches.
no zippered or sealed pockets
Real World Usage
Took it with me to the AWS users conference in Vegas.
Held MacBook Pro retina, Chargers, Book, papers, pens, spiral notebook, glasses case, earbuds, some t-shirts from the event without problems.
There isn't really any place for coins or loose items, like lip balm, eye drops, or an SD card.
It doesn't fit upright very well under an airplane seat and if it was flat, items in the exterior pocket could slide out.
Overall, this is a great looking bag. I've had 2 compliments about the bag while on my trip.
It held all my stuff and seems very durable.
I hope it is just as durable and useful as my previous 10 year old booq backpack was.
But within a week, the dark color began to rub off as if the fabric were painted and not dyed. It was not rubbing off at the outer corners where you might expect, but along the top flap and the handle. These spots were not high-abrassion points and the white color underneath made the bag look cheap, old, and unprofessional. I had read a number of reviews critical of the fabric, but I had no idea the bag wouldn't even make it 7 days! I returned the bag and I would advise any one against buying it.
Then I took the bag out for two - yes, two - trips to a coffee shop. Came back home, and noticed that the natural fiber material wears visibly along creases. The edges of bag gained a worn, distressed look to it. I suspect it's the linen-style weave that exposes white, non-dyed fibers upon use. It's not an attractive look and the bag appeared old quickly. A quick Google/eBay search revealed a similar appearance when used.
That said, a "well-worn" look might be your thing, but I prefer that happen around the 5 year mark, not the 5 day mark. And note that I got the black version, and this may be a non-issue with the lighter colors. If it were not for this one issue, I would have loved to keep it - otherwise, it was a great bag.
Pros: Beautiful bag, well made, comes with option to register the bag, adequately protects computer, waterproof.
Cons: Not much room for other items, front straps are not adjustable.
Holes have worn though the canvas, exposing the shell below. Nice if I want to look hobo or grunge I guess. I'm opting for a more durable bag for my next purchase.
Oh, and the strap is made from seatbelt material and is adjustable.

I bought the Booq Mamba Courier in black for my 13" Macbook Pro, and I would strongly not recommend it. I've been using it for around 4 months.Read more
