Editorial Reviews

Review

“Written much like the therapy it describes, the book’s focused, action-oriented style is clear and easy to follow. Whether you are an experienced therapist or just starting out in your career, if you are considering focusing on a shortened therapeutic approach or just want to expand your current therapeutic repertoire, this book has something to offer.” (PsychCentral)

“[R]eaders who have an interest in these three deep human challenges – anger, depression and anxiety – and their roots will find this a fascinatingly useful quick read.” (Blue Heron Journal)

“As the pragmatics of clinical work today mandate that we incorporate brief therapy skills into our repertoire, Boot Camp Therapy simultaneously respects and challenges our current treatment orientation. This book is bold stuff that will make you uncomfortable-a guiding principle is ‘ready, fire, aim’-but Robert Taibbi immediately tethers readers to a simple, overarching perspective and step-by-step structure for this action-focused therapy. I am so glad I took the time to read this fast-paced book on fast-paced therapy.” (Reid Wilson, PhD, author of Don't Panic: Taking Control of Anxiety Attacks)

“This should be required reading in every psychotherapy training program!” (Margaret Wehrenberg, author of The 10 Best-Ever Anxiety Management Techniques)

Format: Hardcover
Boot Camp Therapy is not for everyone but will benefit those who not only don't have a lot of time for therapy but who want a more rapid approach to problem solving.

This book deals with depression, anxiety and anger. Each section explains what questions to ask and how to proceed through each session.

The problem many clients have is that they need skills to solve their problems. Robert Taibbi believes the brief therapist is quicker to assess the situation and therefore can prescribe solutions for the main problems.

Robert Taibbi makes a good point that childhood wounds do make us more sensitive to various issues. But do we need to spend all our time discussing our hurts? The author believes that we should get on with what we need to do to make the current reality bearable.

This book is well written and organized. I think it will be helpful to therapists looking for fast solutions to their clients problems.

When I bought this book, doctors had me convinced I had anxiety and I felt like this book held the key to 'getting rid' of it. So I read this guide and the result was: it didn't really help me much. There were some useful tips on how to be a more disciplined individual and there were ways in which certain concepts like "the adult" changed my perception of myself and those around me. However, if your goal is to center yourself and decrease anxiety, depression, or unbridled anger, this alone is not the tool for you.
In order to heal from the 'anxiety' the doctors diagnosed, I had to completely change my lifestyle and diet. It took me 6 months of strict exercise and healthy eating (look up the Forks Over Knives diet and Wheat Belly). It also took me months of yoga and meditation with an emphasis on a spirituality I had refused to embrace before.
All along the way, I had fulfilling and supportive personal relationships- which truly is the most powerful healing tool of all. And in addition, I am blessed that I did not have to worry about my finances the whole time.
So if you're looking to heal yourself of the aforementioned 'ailments' (which are truly poor lifestyle choices/habits) I would not only consider the advice in this book alone, I would also consider the "Forks Over Knives" diet and "Wheat Belly" and seriously re-invent yourself in terms of an acceptance and spirituality that you may or may not have. I found mine at the local Hindu temple. Bon voyage.
