When I ordered this bundle from Amazon I assumed, due to the price, that the boxes of each product were larger than usual (my bad, I didn't read the description thoroughly). However, when they arrived I realized they are just the same size as the ones I buy at the grocery store, but double the price. I love Amazon, and usually order things on here because they are either hard to find, far less expensive, or both. However, in this case, there is no reason to order the washing soda/borax bundle off Amazon. Go to your local store. You can get the exact same box of Borax for $6 or less and washing soda for as low as $3 at some locations.
All in all, while these are great products, I feel totally ripped off ordering them on Amazon and won't again.
Add a little ivory bar soap and this makes a great laundry detergent. Almost no scent, cleans every bit as well as the "normal" stuff, and very inexpensive.
The only drawback to mixing up your own laundry detergent is a batch turns out to be more than expected, you need plenty of empty containers. For a family doing laundry more often the small amount of work involved in making up a batch would pay for it's self very quickly.
Soap, and 4.5 gallons of water make me 5 gallons of detergent...it litteraly fills to the top, my 5 galling bucket
OH! And did I mention that I have a 5 gallon bucket still full of the liquid I made (for washing) with these two boxes? And these two boxes are still full as well. So in other words, I have enough leftover - which will last me for about a year (in the 5 gallon bucket) and the boxes are full enough for me to make 2 more 5 gallon bucket (another 2 years)! Do the math - save money - make your own washing powder/fabric softener! And while your at it (for those who have older kids) teach your kids.....specifically teens. I've taught mine - that way, money for washing clothes will never come up while their in college.
